Problem with K-X and old 50mm 1.7 M lens.

Hello all.

I am fairly new to the DSLR world and have recently bought a few old lenses to compliment my lens collection.

I just received a SMC Pentax-M 1:1.7 50mm and when I mount it on my camera body, the aperture display just flashes "---" and I am unable to take a photo no matter what setting I use on the camera.

I tried to google this same problem and found nothing.

Anyone out there that can give me some assistance?
