USB Cable

Can someone tell me if the USB Cable with the K-x is proprietary? I had thought it was microUSB, but no, yet it certainly is smaller than miniUSB. I have so many USB devices and cables lying around that I thought I would already have a cable that fit. I also have a mini to micro adapter that would make it easier to plug this camera into my USB hub but that's close but not quite right. thx

No, any one should work...I have crossed used with other cables often and never a problem.

I'm sorry, then. What I am asking is what size is the USB plug that goes into the camera?

did one come with the camera? That one. If not.....just a standard USB on one side and a quadrangular USB to camera out on the other (not the one which looks similar to firewire)....the one that has same shape as the jack. Radio Hack/Best Buy type of places should have them pretty easily. But no, isn't proprietary at all.

Jason,

If not proprietary, do you know the name of the mini USB plug? Doesn't look like a mini, doesn't look like a micro.

The USB cable is one of the few things that is standardized on most cameras (can't say all because I've not tried all of them).. Here is an example of one that will work with your Kx.

For Sony CyberShot DSC-S750 DSC-S800 DSC-S700 USB Cable - eBay (item 370381000808 end time May-15-10 07:36:32 PDT)

I have several.. I have one for each computer, I carry one in the bag as well for whatever reason I might need one.

I'm not sure I understand Jasvox... the socket on my K20D is also proprietary, it's not mini USB and it's not micro USB. I can't use either of these connections to plug my K20D to my computer.

As a result, I always use a card reader...

It's proprietary. This is one of the very few things I don't like about my K-x.

I think it's not proprietary, but rarely used. It's using either a Mini (A or B?) or Micro-AB type connector. It's kind of rare, out of many USB cables at my home, it can only use the one that comes with my old Sony cybershot. I don't have my camera right now, so I can't tell if it is a Mini A, Mini-B, or Micro A-B. Mini-A is more rare than Mini-B

Can anyone identify which one is it from this wikipedia entry?

I'll look again tonight, but I have several micro and mini USB cables and none of them look to fit the female socket on the K-x.

It's a "standard" cable in that it's really only used by cameras. My FZ28 uses the same and some of the kids off brand crappy P&S's use it too.

Don't confuse it with the 5-pin, that's a wholly different beast (and widely used).
