*ist D + M42 and M Lenses?

I found an inexpensive *ist D for a friend that's just getting into photography. Problem is, we don't know how she can use my M42 and M series lenses.

On my K-x, K20D, K100D Super, etc the 'aperture ring' settings were pretty straightforward. On the *ist D, I can't seem to find them in the menu.

At least with M42 in A mode, the camera meters but has no focus confirm. M mode is especially confusing, can't figure out how to take a light reading ...

Would love some help from other *ist D owners out there. Thanks!

You have to change the custom setting for 'Using aperture ring' to permitted. Then you're full manual.

I got a old *ist DL, works pretty much same as K-x, focus conformation also works with Manual lens, just no SR. But the *ist still pretty nice small DSLR for beginner.

Metering in M mode is using the AE-L button

I already looked for that, but there's no such setting in the *ist D menus

Try menu item F stop other than A

If you don't have the manual (like me ), you can download it from Manuals and Literature - Official PENTAX Imaging Web Site I did that and found the above.

sterretje is correct. To get to this function, from the main menu go into "Custom Function" and about half way through that menu you will see "F Stop other than A", and just select "ON"
