Strange K10D noise

Hi guys,
cleaning my K10D tonight I noticed something strange. When holding the camera & tilting it from a landscape angle to the portrait angle i can feel a slight thud/bump from within the camera, you can also (when everything is quite) hear a slight thud too. I removed the lens & battery from the camera & it still does it. I've noticed no drop in performance when taking pics, images are perfect. Does anyone elses K10D do this?
Cheers
Justin

Can't say that I have. There aren't many moving parts in a camera. The only few things that comes to mind might be the image stabilization feature. It could be a small shift in your sensor plate, as it is held by magnets I believe.

Or..

as in my 20D, there is a small ball bearing that acts as an orientation switch, to help with image viewing on the LCD. This is how the camera figures out you are shooting in portrait as opposed to landscape in order to orient the image in your LCD for viewing.

I've noticed it, I reckon it's a orientation sensor too.

Mine does that too. It is the sensor floating around in the back of the camera and is normal. The SR is only active when taking pictures, and the rest of the time it kind of just "flops" around back there.

Thank goodness for that, I could'nt believe it when I first heard/felt it, i'm super careful & look after my K10D & have never dropped it or anything. I've never noticed it before today!

It's the ...

... little guy that draws the image bumping his head as you twist the box around.

Frame orientation sensor. The image sensor movement is much, much smaller and well damped.

I'm in the office but there's nobody within eyeshot, so time to do a Live test on mine.

Answer : yes.

I have no idea why, but based on the above I'm happy to attribute it to the orientation sensor

If you search the forum for title:

"Loose Movement inside a new K100D"

which started in May you will find several people replied that they have a noise when the camera is tilted. The general concensus is the sensor floats on the Shake Reduction platform. I posted my K110D was quiet, my K100D had the noise.
