Auto ISO...do you use it?

i find that its a tad erratic even in the best of times for my k20d. Can have extreme differences in iso for repeated shots of the same subject.

I use it, but in a narrow range; 100-400.

I use it because the K-x doesn't have dual dials!

And Pentax lied to me about the ability to set +/- + dial to change ISO instead of EV Comp and have the right d-pad change EV comp.

I think about it all the time but never end up using it, I work mostly at base anyway.

I don't let the camera choose my exposure in any way whatsoever. M mode, manual ISO. I'll use the green button to let the camera "suggest" a shutter speed, but that's it.

Use to use it all the time when I wanted to work fast. Now only sometimes and only within a narrow range like 100-400. It's handy but not essential.

Ditto. And a lot has to do with the conditions you're shooting under:

If you're in bright sun shooting fairly static objects/scenes, why would you let the camera decide to choose to go higher than 200? Even in an automatic mode?

Hell, I don't go over 100 in bright sun with the kx unless I have to, like I need the DOF or shutter speed.

But those are my decisions to make, what I need. The camera doesn't understand my needs.

I also have it set in the 100-400 range on my K10D. If I have more time to think about things then I will go to Av with the ISO set to 100.

Thats pretty much me too. Occasionally will use Av with auto 100-800 when on family outings - find the opportunity with children is often there for only a fleeting moment.

I'm with Marc and Ira. Even though manually changing ISO with the K2000's D-pad can get annoying and logistically frusturating, it ends up being worth it in the end as I too find Auto mode to be way too erratic. (Sorry for any spelling mistakes in advance, typing this from my phone)

This is my "museum" setting - indoors, low light, where I want the shot without any fuss, but don't need it to be commercial quality. For everything else it's M and the magic green button to get me close.

Always use it. If I want to adjust exposure I use +/- EV. Never had a problem with it on my K20D or K-7.
