K200D malfunction

Last week while on holiday I switched the camera on and the LCD very briefly showed its knowledge before going blank. The camera failed to wake up. Every time I switched on was the same. I took out a battery and reinserted - same. Gave up on the photo and sat glumly in the car fiddling with every conceivable combination. Took out the memory card and reinserted and back to normal. Phew! Anyone had a similar experience or explanation?

Sounds like either a faulty battery that took the voltage too high momentarily, or a loose connection within the camera. If it's all ok now, I wouldn't worry about it. (But if it happens again...)

I've had this happen to me a few times.
But always when using batteries that turned out to be inadequate. Once I change to eneloops it all goes back to normal.
That's why I stick with eneloops 100 percent of the time. They have never failed me since. For whatever reason the combination works marvels.
Now it could be something else, (hopefully not) but just my 2cents. Jools.

Hi Jules: They were in fact Eneloops, with about 400 pics on the clock since last charge. Since then another 150 or so pics and camera still shows fully charged. I wonder if Jonathan Mac's suggestion might be close. Hoping it's a once off whatever the cause.

Since the problem went away after taking out and reinserting the memory card, sounds like a bad connection. I'd keep an eye on THAT card - cards do go bad and can cause some strange stuff to happen.

Perhaps there was a faulty connection with the memory card door?
With my K200d, the camera won't turn on if the door is open. It's possible your cam though the door was open for some reason, so it didn't turn on.

You are quite right - that recreates the effect precisely. I'm sure I'd have noticed if the door had been open. I'd say it wasn't, but the effect is spot on.
