If the next Pentax body doesn't significantly improve AF, I'm getting a Canon.

That doesn't mean I'll drop Pentax, but I'll choose the horse for the course.

Having young children, the horse will often be the Canon for the forseeable future tho...

Gosh, I don't want to be a sheep...

Hmm.

Hmph.

Hmmm, I don't have any problem with the AF on my Pentax equipment.

Just don't get a Canon 5DmkII. AF totally sucks on it unless you use the center point....Canon users gripe about it constantly.
And the 40D takes really soft and OOF pictures...Canon users gripe about it constantly.
And don't get a Canon 1DmkIII unless the mirror box has been fixed.

Just sayin'....

Sometimes these issues come down to knowing how to use the equipment.
I don't think I've ever missed a shot with my Pentax due to slow auto focus; but I think my wife's violin is defective.
I can't seem to get it to play any music.

Should anyone feel concerned or was this just a rhetorical posting?

I've had both Canon and Pentax....I'd suggest you try one before presuming it'll fix the issue you have. I've gotten so used to manual focus that I'll get better results chasing my kids around using it than auto focus off a Canon.

Interesting responses, ranging from helpful to la-la-la denial.

For those in denial, I am proficient with a camera, thank you.

The 5D Mk II advice was kind and received with thanks. I have used a Mk II, albeit briefly, so my positive impression might well change.

The reality is that while I love the Pentax detail/texture, focus on the cameras I have owned (100D and K-x) have been very uncertain.

Yes, I could manually focus. It would be a pleasure with a FF pentaprism.

I believe Kenyee was trying to point out a simple fact - there are issues with every system and it takes a while to get used to them and determine whether it's a deal breaker or not. That's why the user community is such an important reference, although one always has to consider the source.

I've dealt with AF focusing issues with both my K10 and K20 and after rolling the counters on both cameras multiple times, I've learned to cope.

That said, I have a 2 year old and let's just say he's a challenge for any AF system

As you may have heard, AF is remarkably improved on the K-7.

That said, if you really need perfect AF, Canon and Nikon do come closer.

Okay. Aside from the fact they were pointing out that there are issues with all systems. Those are among the main three gripes from the Canon camp. Being there myself for several years I am familiar with those posts. People used to complain about the 50D, yet it was still quite a great camera.

That being said. I think that it's never as bad as it sounds online. I heard about the constant pentax AF system before I switched, my K7 does a very nice job I think. Even did quite well at a local roller derby in low light.

If the next Pentax poster doesn't significantly improve from posting asinine content, I'm going to the Canon forum.

Hmm.

Hmph.
