K7+FA35 or DA*55 VS KX+DA 40

Hello, I am at a dilemma between K-7 + FA 35mm F2(or even DA * 55mm F1.4) and K-X + DA 40mm F2.8. The reason behind is that K-7 obviously has worse performance at higher ISO, especially ISO 1600 and above. for same light situation and shooting object, I would like to give K-7 more larger F stops to keep shooted at lower ISO.

I am satisfied with K-X but dislike it has less features and body build. K-7 has better advanced body build and features.

If I go with K-7 and larger F stops, on another side, I am worried about DOF is too shallow.

I currently don't own any of them, I want to know, if I am happy with a photo shot by K-X combo at ISO 6400, can I get same shoot with the K-7 combo at ISO 1600? FA 35 or DA* 55? Although they will have different DOF.

can anybody help me out? Thanks in advance.

Well, price wise, your two solutions are quite different, no?

Having both camera, I'd say it's all down to your shooting habits... Using Av mode and auto-iso 99% of the time, the Kx is enough for my needs, but M mode and Iso selection can be irksome without the 2nd wheel...

Noise-wise, you are about right with the 2 stops difference, I think.

Something else I've noticed is that the Kx as a smoother feel to it... Graduations seems better, DR feels definitively broader (just shoot an event with both cams round my neck, and the Kx really produced better images through the same workflow).
But that's just a feeling...

Why not K-x + FA35 ? You would get the "best of both worlds" this way.

Although personally, I would choose K-7 + FA35 (well, that is actually my most used at the moment). True, the K-x has better high-ISO IQ, but the the K-7 is a better camera in all other respects. And its high-ISO IQ is not as bad as online forum chatter would lead you to believe (but you must shoot in raw to exploit its potential).

K7 all the way. Shoot raw in low light and use a noise software (or get a flashgun). At current prices K7 is really a bargain.
IMO Kx better option only for street/candid shots because it's less threatening - of course if it's not black.

Good luck!

I would chose k-x simply due to awesome dynamic range and IQ and at end of the day, that matters the most. I know it has some missing features specially manual focus point selection in viewfinder compared to my k100d but the IQ makes up for it. Just my personal opinion.

Totally different choices I should say. You mix it up and have all different sets of camera + lens.

I think the DA*55mm is the greatest choice to make anyway.

For camera choice they are so different that only iso1600 and up isn't going to make the difference unless you will use that all the time.

If it is moneywise take the K-x, it's a good camera.

I have used my K7 + DA*16-50/2.8 indoors at ISO3200 and the noise is not bad. I shoot for my school and indoor events are the norm. I do not use flash too.

Why not go the K-x + FA35 route instead? Better ISO performance as compared to the K7 (K-x up to ISO 6400)

If you have the resources, I would definitely go with K-7 plus DA* 55.

I would only go the K-x route if it were a second body or money was a limiting factor.
