Sould I stay with Pentax?

I am thinking of going for a Sony a850..

I have a k-7 with some nice DA*s and DA ltd's.. I like landscape photography, the a850 with a cz 16-35mm gives alot of bang for buck IMO.. I would luv a 645D.. But the price is to high for me ATM.. Having two systems is a pain.. Could be my only way

I say go for it, use Sony for at least 3-4 months then tell us about your comparison(s) between two systems.

Have you thought about the new sigma 8-16? Seems like it would be cheaper to get a wide angle lens, if that is what you feel deficient in, than a whole new camera.

If it will make you more happy, then go for it.

I guess the reason he asks is to hear our opinions as he probably doesn't know yet if it's the better choice or not...

If you are serious about landscaping better get yourself a specialised panoramic ball-head and stay with the K7.

If you will switch you'll find yourself LBA-ing for more Sony/Minolta glass and that could be very expensive for the top grade FF Current sony lenses.

Staying with the K7 allows you to save money and having more FL options.

For me going FF ATM would be only the D700 where at least you have a decent range of lenses and an excellent system to upgrade into.

My 2 pesos

That and the 8-16mm are an $1,000 solution without the headache of 2 systems.

I would certainly wait until Photokina. I've heard from someone dealing with Sony that they have something "surprising" up their sleeves.

Also, here in HK, the a850 is about US$1,700 whereas the D700 / 5D are $2,100. It doesn't make the a850 very tempting.

I'd also be very surprised if Nikon and Canon don't update their "compact" FF bodies.

I say, wait till Photokina in September!
Than you can choose between 4 aps-c Bodys and the 645 or make the step to sony maybe.

You know that the 645D is your really only good descision to go that big step forward. Great detail in your landscape. Sell your car, or just drive a cheaper one for a few years.

I have looked at the sigma 8-16mm... But this is still aps-c glass, plus not a big fan of Sigma! What I like about the a850 is 24 mpx so I can print big.. If pentax came out with the DA* 11-16mm I might stay.. Or do I get a bank loan for a 645D so I can print big and sell my work on the fine art market..

The 850 seems to be a fine camera, but Sony's sense of direction has been mighty odd lately; their fingers are in too many new pies, and R&D has gone away from SLR for a while. I've just fled their universe (from an A200) to pick up a K-7. Ask any A700 user who doesn't want FF size, they've been waiting two-plus years for the updated 7-series. Those who go FF really like that sensor's dynamic range, but they do buy a new hard disk soon after
