power fails on K10D

Hello
I have a strange problem with my K10D
the power fails 90% of the time
when I gently finger the release-button, then the power comes back on, for a while,
as if it were in stand-by sleeping mode (which it is not)
It is now to troublesome to go on a shoot, and repair could cost up tp 300.... pfff

Is anyone familiar with this problem ?

I assume that you have proven out (eliminated) your battery and battery connections?

Mine does this all the time. The behavior is intended. I think they refer to it as "Auto Power Off" (battery saver) mode. See page 198 in the K10D manual for instructions on how to customize this feature.

P.S. You can download the manual HERE.

yes, you can actually adjust the time until it goes on stand by. Mine is on 5 minutes.
I've tried a reset (to factory settings), but the erratic behaviour remains, especially after taking a photo.

The default (factory) setting for Auto Power Off is 1 minute. You should turn it completely off and see if your camera still continues to power down.

One other thing to consider...Is your K10D battery dying? Lithium cells have a finite life from date of manufacture. Most start to get a little flaky at about 3-4 years. That life can be shortened by frequent full discharge or being maintained in a partial discharge state. My K10D is about 3.5 years old and I figure it is probably time to replace the battery.

I will turn off the 'auto power off' tonight when I get home.
But I'm afraid it's a mechanical problem i.e. costly....

You wouldn't happen to be using a MODSET file? I've noticed strange power behavior when having one of these files in place. A format of the card done in the camera cleared it up for me.

I cannot imagine, but will try (anything). I've been using the same 4-gb card over the past half year. It should contain nothing but jpg's and raw's.
(will check tonight)

And all of a sudden the camera is back to normal...
Would be nicer if I understood, but hey, I'm very happy !
