Originally posted by pov17 I' m very preoccupied about pentax' progress about dslr. I' ve got a K20d, i tried the K7, there is no difference ( except a ridicolous movie mode and some little upgrade), the same sensor a similar af sistem and the same low iso noise.
I don' t demand too much, i just want a DSLR with a performance in-line with other brands' semi-pro DSLR (300s e D50), not a 5d neither a D3x, only a good camera with good performance but the hoya\pentax seems only intrested to find a new color chassis for its entry level DSLR.
I'm fairly certain the K-7 AF is much improved over the K20D's. And I'm a K20D owner!
However, what I find most suspect with your post is that you claim to now demand much without ever really expressing what it is that you're demanding.
As a D700 owner, I can honestly say that the difference in average performance between the FF and my K20D is not as significant as I would have hoped.
IOW. shooting under normal conditions, it's really hard to justify the differences between the two other than weight and feel.
Having said that, I have good reason to beleive that Pentax is about to announce a new DSLR with improved AF, ISO and FPS performance. Though I don't know if it will be intended to compete in the prosumer arena. Which makes sense(if you think about it), because it seems as though Pentax has been careful not to get involved at that level of competition. And I think most people who invest in Pentax, do so knowing where the product is meant to perform.
ie. if we want to shoot fast paced sports action(such as: racing etc) , then we pick the brand that is best suited for such things. But notice, Pentax does not advertises this area?
In Pentax's defense, I think the issue is a consumer one rather than with the product grade. Because Pentax has been consistent in their market position with regards to product intentions. And though there are many shooters out there who can make there units work at the track and various other extremes. I think the biggest indicator that the line is not built for this is in the lack of R&D in the technology that we find with the other competitors(tracking, AF prediction, higher FPS, etc).
So for me.. I find that if we use Pentax camera's where they are intended to be used. That everything works out beautifully. However.. if we force fit the product outside of its intended use, then we end-up feeling much the same way that you're expressing here.
