K200d tethered to laptop?

Can you shoot a K200d tethered to a laptop so that the image is viewed immediately on the screen?

Unfortunately NO.

The ist D, K10D and K20D have fully tethered functionality.

I can get my ist DS to have some rudimentary tethering but you would need one of the three above cameras if you want tethering.

Not even the K-7 offers tethering.

Regards

'Proper' tethering isn't supported on the K200D, in the sense of 'remote display at full resolution and with remote control of the camera'. But 'pseudo' tethering CAN work fine three ways with the K200D. And it will achieve exactly what you have asked.

I've verified the first two methods , the 3rd is a guess.

(1) Make sure 'Instant Review' is enabled. Then connect the AV cable supplied in the K200D box to your K200D and your PC or an external video monitor/TV. Any photo you take is then instantly displayed on the external video display, for the period of time you have selected for instat review.

(2) Make sure that 'Digital Preview' is enabled. Then connect the AV cable supplied in the K200D box to your K200D and your PC or an external video monitor/TV. Any photo you take is then instantly displayed on the external video display for as long as you choose, and if you like how it looks you can choose to save it, discard it etc, as per usual.

(3) via something like an Eye-fi card. I think it probably works on the K200D.

(1) and (2) have limitations - the output image is only at standard definition PAL or NTSC resolutions, and requires that you have a device with an AV input, but it works.

Thanks for the replies. With the ist D, K10D and K20D would I be able to trigger the shutter from the computer?

Yes, I believe so.

With the K-x you'd have to use a IR remote or a IR timer/remote.

K200D and K10D recently added so keep an eye on this page..

and see if the K100D gets added. (or just try it and see ? it might work ??)

You could always ask the developer...https://sites.google.com/a/pentax.org.pl/tomaszkos/contact

and folks, this is an amazing development given that Pentax continue to say tethering is not available for most of their cameras !! so if it works for you then consider donating to this guy for his time and efforts on your behalf

You have to use the Pentax Remote Assistant software that Pentax made. Version 1 works with the K100D, but it was never officially supported, and can be finicky.

When it works though, it is nice. I've managed to get it to work together with Lightroom to have tethering. It's a bit slow, but not too unreasonably so.

You should be able to find it by googling a bit.

Great News! I would consider donating to him if he came out with a Mac version. I emailed him to see if he would, but haven't heard from him.

Just gave it a very short test and PK-Tether worked with my K-7. It was unbelievable to see watching zoom focal length value changes real-time on the screen when I was playing with the zoom, even with an an oldie FA 100-300mm. Kudos to programmer/(s).

Edit: My K-7 has the latest firmware with the first SDXC card update in it.
