Finally upgraded!

I just purchased a used K10d to upgrade from my K100d! I'm sooooo excited!! What are some of the secret upgraded secrets I should look for on the K10d that I didn't have on the K100d?

Congratulations on getting a K10! Now you can use your K100 when you want to run 'round light and unencumbered, like. Small bag, two lenses and you are out the door, brother!
Take a bigger bag and gobs of lenses with the K10 when you want to explore some. Go get 'em, man!

I don't know where this character I've just portrayed came from but he sounds a bit cheeky if you ask me.

Don't know anything about either of those two cameras, but if it doesn't come with an owners manual, this check out...

Pentax e-books

That should give you a pretty good idea as to what your new camera can do. Hopefully you'll get a few polite and more informed ideas from those who had both cameras.

If not already there, install firmware 1.20 (unless you plan on using SDM). That will turn on all of the features. Then, in the custom menu, set the rear dial for Av or Tv (in those modes) and the front dial to ISO (trust me, it's very convenient to have it that way). Shoot RAW+. Buy a couple extra NP-400 type batteries. You should then be good to go.

Enjoy the new camera and welcome to the club!

Congratulations. I love my K10D and don't see a reason to upgrade to anything else, yet.

The first thing you'll want to do is check for any focus issues by downloading a chart from here: http://focustestchart.com/focus21.pdf. Many K10Ds require focus adjustments as they age. I believe you can use firmware version 1.2 to adjust for front focus/back focus or you can use the debug mode to adjust the camera in 1.3 or 1.31.

Turn on the camera while holding down the menu button.

Got it, I have version 1.30. Any reason to upgrade?

Nope. 1.10 turns on most of the features. 1.11 fixed a rear sync flash issue if I remember correctly (and closed the door on getting into Debug mode). 1.20 turns on the Remote assistant. 1.30 turns on SDM support. There's a 1.31 that has something to do with the cards (SDHC) but I never had any problems with 1.30. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Show us what you can do with it. Congrats!
