Pentax k20d or k7

If the price is not a concern, I would buy k7. but it is.

If you wait till the new body announcement, the K7 should possibly drop some more. Basic camera functionality - the K20 has essentially the same sensor as the K7 (there are some differences). Depending on your current body - you have to evaluate this. There is also the K10/K200....

K20D and the grip are a little cheaper. If you own a K10D grip you can use it in the k20D.
K7 has video, if you need it, then this is your choice.

Have you considered the Kx?
It's a pretty slick little camera.
The price is really good and the IQ is spectacular.

Gee, mayber we should make a thread with this title sticky. There always appear to be one or more going at any time.

If I had no other bodies at this time I would get the K7. You cand find it for without $100 of the K20d, and it offers some conveniences and very few downsides. When the new body is announced, the price will go down more.

Where can I find a K7 body within $100 of a K20?

I can buy a K20 here right now for $500, but there isn't a K7 close to that price.

If you can buy a K20d for $500 then there probably is not a K7 for within $100. I was thinking they were still going for $600 plus when new. There are several places advertising the K7 for <$750. I'd still buy it at that price over the K20d if I were starting from scratch.

The $500 is for a used 20 in the marketplace here.

I'm in a real dilemma. I'm ready to order today, but I think I'm just going to go with a new kx kit again for 5 and change. Or should I?

Aarrrrrrggghhhhhhh!!!!

When the k7 prices hopefully drop, maybe that's the time to move to a second body, and the kx will do fine as a backup.

About 18 months ago when the K7 was announced, the K20 hit $650 and I could not help myself from upgrading from my K100 of about 4 years (and I kept it as a backup). For me the price was right along with the camera. The argument for me was the K20 - and for a new one, I did not think that it was really going to get any cheaper, before they ran out of stock, or wait till about now and get a K7. I do have to say, the K20 was right for me at that time. Am I tempted by the K7 - in someways it would be nice. However - the K20 has been so good to me and I have increased my skill level, and I am really very satisfied with the K20, I will be passing on the K7 (unless Pentax does something really stupid with the K8...). It could easily be my last body, then again in another 4 years - who knows.

So, I do understand your current dilemma. In that the K7 apparently is not being discontinued (I have read speculations) with the potential announcement of the new camera, its really difficult to figure out how the near term pricing of the K7 may go.

Bottom line, they are both very good cameras, both have their fans, both have various attributes that make them attractive for specific uses.

... good hunting.

+1 Wait for Photokina and the upcoming announcements... in any case, whatever will be announced will have a better sensor than K7...
