memory cards for the Kx when shooting raw

What size would be a good memory card to use for my Kx? I can get a class 10 16gig card from a local store for $40 and it seems best for the price.

If I'm shooting raw how many shots can I expect to put on a card like that?

What type of card? With 16 GB you could get close to 800 raw images. But for me, I prefer smaller cards and top quality. Cheap no-name cards can have some problems where cards like Lexar or Sandisk rarely fail. I'd never store that many shots on one card unless it was a vacation or some trip where carrying extra stuff is going to be an issue.

My last SANDISK 16 gig class 10 cost me $96.00. a month ago. K-7 with jpeg will do 1200 plus images, more with your 12Mpixel sensor

That price sounds about right. I got a Transcend 16GB Class 6 with reader on sale for about $35 awhile back but it has been hovering around 42-45 ever since.

I've never had a card problem (Kingston, SanDisk, Lexar, Transcend). There was a card-failure poll going awhile ago. About 70-something percent never had a single problem. Of the remainder, we never heard much about what the actual problem (major/minor/temporary, etc) really was. I might have to hunt up the thread.

Another plug for SanDisk. It's the only brand I'll use. Reliability is there, allowing you as photographer to have confidence and assurance that you won't loose one photo.

I use 4GB class 10 SDHC cards from SanDisk. With the K20 14MB images I get 167 images in RAW, and I carry about 2 or 3 with me in my backpack. I too, mainly use Transcend, Kingston, Lexar, PQI and have never really had a failure. To guard against failure I tend to stay with the smaller cards (4GB) - thus potentially limiting my loss.

The only reason I am using SanDisk now, was that Thanksgiving 2008 they had a SD card giveway in 3 packs. So, I availed myself of their offer.

SanDisk (at least the ones I have) came with a data recovery utility on a mini CD. So, I would suggest maybe 1 small 4GB SanDisk just for the utility - just in case, then look for good prices on the web for the other brands....

just a thought....
