Originally posted by bsamcash To be fair though, I am strongly considering a Nikon 7000 over a Pentax K-5 for my next upgrade. I know that the K-5 is probably the overall better body in image quality and handling, but I've just been getting fed up with Pentax's autofocus. What's holding me back is my great lust for the Limiteds.
The latest (March 2011) issue of PopPhoto post their usual camera ratings page. Here are their top-rated cameras, 4.5 stars or more, ordered by 'street' cost (body only) in US$ at the publication deadline:
US$1100 - 4.5*- Canon EOS 60D (APS-C)
US$1450 - 4.5*- Pentax K5 (APS-C)
US$2500 - 4.5*- Canon EOS 5D Mk II (FF)
US$4750 - 4.5*- Canon EOS 1D Mk IV (APS-H)
US$5200 - 4.5*- Nikon D3S (FF)
US$6100 - 4.5*- Canon EOS 1Ds Mk III (FF)
US$7500 - 5*--- Nikon D3X (FF)
So, except for the Canon 60D, every cam with the same rating as the K5 costs considerably more. No other Nikons, no Sony's nor Oly's, made it past 4 stars. I'm surprised the Sony A850 (US$2000, 4*) didn't rate higher, as it and the costlier A900 (US$2700, 4*) are the only dSLRs with both FF and SR. They rate the A850 as "superfast AF" which, with the shorter register distance of the Sony's (necessary for many legacy lenses), makes the A850 my leading candidate for an 'upgrade' cam. If I had money. And desire.
I'm sure the Nikon D7000 (US$1200, 4*) is a fine camera -- if one wants to buy-into the Nikon lens family, with in-lens IS on *some* lenses, with no capacity to use M42 and other shorter-register glass, with no WR sealing, etc. There are many trade-offs. I don't think I'd want to trade off in-body SR for faster AF. But that's me.

I thought artists only talked about light, and pros only talked about money?
