Lever / switch in Memory compartment

There is a kind of switch next to the SD memory slot, behind the door.
I have not been able to find its use in my (Dutch) manual. Have I overlooked anything? Can somebody tell me what it is for?

Bert

Sounds like part of the latch assembly for holding the door closed.

bymy141 did not say what kind of camera it was, but I know all too well where the door switch is on a K110D. When you close the memory door and slide it forwards the plastic door hits a switch located on the circuit board inside. The switch arm extends slightly from the board and is vulnerable to being broken off by someone foolish enough to open the camera.

The photo of the K10D door is very different than the K100D where you can't see any indication of a door switch. My personal opinion is camera doors (especially battery holders) are the weak spot in many designs. We have a couple of P&S cameras with battery doors that won't stay shut. The battery contacts must have considerable pressure on them, a plastic door with tiny latches is not up to the task very long.

Once the memory door switch on a K1x0D fails (bad switch, bad case alignment) the camera is useless. The top display lights for a second, then camera plays dead. I'm hoping that does not happen when the cameras get old.

Don't get me wrong, my wife and I have two Pentax DSLRs each and are happy with them. I just wish the memory door did not have a safety switch, other cameras don't bother to shutdown when you open the memory door.
