And I thought using a Pentax strap reduces the chances of theft? I doubt most thieves know the brand, and selling it will be harder too.

Think I mentioned before... most DSLRs in my family (as in cousins etc.) are Pentax. It's still quite rare though. But on several outings in Johor Bahru I did see Pentax straps. Never spoke to someone though.

Anyway, keep the stories coming. Always fun to read.

I was being tongue-in-cheek about the strap. I wear my Pentax strap proudly

And as for this thread, with over 170k views, we might not be as rare as we think!

In Johor Bahru. First camera spotted a 7D on a tripod, doing nothing. Second camera a Pentax. Not sure which model though. But a DSLR. Seems to be part of a camera club outing as far as I can tell... but mixed, not only Pentax.

And the next Pentax, with a yellow ring around the lens.

I don't see too many Pentax users when I'm out, but I've been doing my part to create some new ones. Two of my friends have teenage dAughters that are interested in film photography, so I passed on a zx-7 and a zx-30 to them. Also I was at a party this summer talking with a guy who wanted to get back into film (currently a canon dslr user), so I gave him a zx-30 as well. They are all enjoying Pentax quite a bit right, and I'm enjoying making room in my collection for new things to come!

We went to a pottery sale today in Watkinsville, Georgia, dozens of artisans. We've been several times in the past and never fail to come home with lovely things. I had my K5 so I could photograph interesting pieces and the placards that the makers used to identify themselves. As we were checking out the guy at the register asked "Is that a K5?" I said it was and he said he'd traded his K20 in for one and really liked it. We agreed that the shake reduction was a major factor in our satisfaction.

Other than that I saw some sort of Nikon DSLR, a P & S, and of course the ubiquitous phone cameras.

2x31mm silver in Vienna!

Hi all,

Was in Vienna a week ago and went to the palace Schönnbrunn. Walked up to the building called Gloriette, where you have a great view of the palace from above. I had my silver 31mm Limited on my Samsung GX-20 and in the cafeteria I bumped into a chap with a silver 31mm on his K-7. I've never seen another 31mm silver before apart from my own. The bloke was Russian and did not really speak any English (my Russian is very rudimentary these days!) but we pointed and nodded in agreement that it's a great lens. Now, if I only could mount it on a digital full-frame one day...

Cheers,
Fred

I wonder how many of those photogs have vertical grips and still try to hold their cameras with their wrists up and over

That's hilarious, it makes being a photographer look like some kinda of drooling pervert. You can almost see the whole pack eagerly leaning forward, about to spill into a pile at any moment.

I think your shot is probably better than the ones they got.

I dropped by Showcase in Atlanta GA Saturday to pick up some 35mm BW film. Pretty expensive! And they apparently do have a few Pentaxes, K-30s, but a casual shopper would never find them. Surely they could spare a little "showcase" space next to Canon and Nikon. The old hands there do know Pentax; one had been a 645 user back in the day. Wise man!

Since I recently acquired an Olly OM-2n I asked about used glass. They don't take any film lenses, I was told, I suppose this is true for Olympus because of their shift to 4/3s. Surely they wouldn't spurn a Nikon 50mm f1.2!

I saw 2 other Pentax users while visiting Disney World last spring (and you can bet there are a ton of DSLRs out there w/families and such). I love that we a rare because when I get the pleasure of meeting another Pentax users you can instantly strike up a convo. In fact with one person I met we took a photo of each other taking a a photo of each other. I'm always looking out for fellow Pentaxians.

This is the ancient law of 'like attracts like'
Two FA31s in the city at one time and they congregate !
Marvellous
