no doubt wondering "who is that nutcase"

I'd do the same and probably get the same reaction.

Among my varied responsibilities at work, I often act as a docent (guide) for visiting tour groups, etc. Had a big group yesterday, about 40 visitors, many with cameras. Saw a couple of Nikons and Canons, a Sony, lots and lots of itty-bitty P&S, and one Pentax K-r. Had a moment to chat up the fellow and he said he'd been shooting Pentax for many, many years. He was proudly wearing the Pentax logo strap.

I have increased the tally by one! I gave my K-7 to my brother's girlfriend (I have a K-5). He's a Canon man, and I wasn't going to let him lead her astray.

I was on Spring Break this week (I am a teacher, the ones who really need the break) and saw young lady in her early twenties with a K-x in Fredericksburg, Texas! I was using one of my other system (Minolta) and was unable to speak to her. If I would have had my ME-Super, I probably would yelled across the field.

I went to Camerally 2013 last weekend. It's a live-in photography weekend with talks and practicals. There would have been over 100 photographers there. I was the only Pentax user. I think I was the only person who was unable to get their camera to work with the set up wireless flash system. I was using my *istD as my K-7 was away for repair. I could get it to work wirelessly with my AF540FGZ.

This afternoon my wife I had Easter dinner with our son's new wife and parents-in-law and some of her aunts and uncles. I took one of my Q's with the 01 and 02 lenses and did some grab shots in P Mode. For that purpose the 02 is quite a handy lens. I also did some set shots of groups of "cousins" with the 01 Prime in Av which are really nice.

Some of the adults were intrigued with the little camera system idea, and my daughter-in-law's mother and I sat down and found a deal package on BestBuy for the 02 Kit for $239, which she ordered for an upcoming vacation. She really didn't want to lug around a dSLR the whole time.

I had to explain about Pentax to everyone - Spotmatics, K1000 (Oh yeah, I remember I had one of those!!) etc. and backwards compatibility with my existing lenses (even K>Q Adapter). But it was all totally new information - there was no current recognition whatsoever. Yes, they're still in business (sigh).

They all (4 upper-middle-class adult couples) shop at the local 9-Store B&M chain, and if I heard D7100 once I heard it ten times. I just said, "Well, that's the hot camera right now," I mean, what's the point?

My friend has gotten wind of Canon just announcing the 100D, 700D and

...switches to Pentax, selling off his 1000D and all related Canon gear. Now he's asking me everyday for more info on the Pentax system. Maybe I should charge for this? lol =))

I recently took a photography class and 20 % of the attendee's had Pentax. (Ok, me and another guy in a class of 10, but still ! ; )

Then last week I captured this in the wild. Maybe we're not so rare anymore, more like medium rare ?

I'm convinced that's why Pentax have introduced various colours to certain products, it's so we can all find each other.

Was shooting at a nature reserve the other day, saw a few Canikons (couple with monster lenses on, rest had kit lenses), but no other Pentaxians. My SO said it would indeed be rare to see another one, but I have no desire to change brands.

Actually yeah. Colored K-x/K-r/K-30 are like so easy to spot even among the colored Canikon bodies (yeah, they tried too, but they all look so meh). Nobody does colored bodies like Pentax.

Except for the Hasselblad Lunar perhaps
