I'm consider new user of PENTAX. I owned K7 once it launched last year. It's my 1st PENTAX.

I dun care v r rare or not. I just care about the result & performance to my work.

I meet Pentax users all the time...
A group shot of a happy bunch of Singapore Pentax users during our just completed monthly outing for September. There were more who came later and were not in the picture.
Plenty of beer from all over the world in the quaint and rustic cafe to the right of the picture.

Creampuff, just out of curiosity: in that group of 30+ Pentaxians, what would you estimate was the distribution of different DSLRs?

A good number of K-7s, lots of the new K-x, and a smattering of K20Ds. Most own multiple cameras and a few have a to die for lens collection. Plus quite a number opted to shoot film too to capture the rustic location.
A lot would have dumped their discontinued *istD series/K100D/K10D/K200D cameras quite a long time ago.
Plenty of sharing firsthand on why they should upgrade, queries on gear selection to getting the most out of their cameras. Best of all we enjoy the good company, so we even get one or two people using other brands joining in.

I was at the tidal basin for Cherry Blossoms festival back in April of 2010, from pre-dawn until almost noon. There were thousands of enthusiasts and professionals and I had never seen so many (D)SLRs in one place in my life.

All the while walking around and shooting, I was also observing to see if anyone else was shooting with a Pentax. Finally I saw one Pentax K20D, and when I looked up to see who the owner was, it was one of us from here!

And the camera was my older K20D that I had sold her just some time before!

That was the only time I ever saw anyone with a Pentax in the wild, and I've been on and about with my Pentax cameras for nearly two years now.

Are we really that sparse out in the world?
The other month I was talking to some guys who work up on the NYC Highline when I was there taking pictures. The guy read the 'Pentax' on my camera and it put a smile on his face.
He said "it's nice to see someone shooting with that".
I replied "oh, you have one too?".
He responded "no" and hesitated.
I laughed and replied "or because it's such an odd duckling to see in the wild?"
To which he replied, "ya, that" .

I travelled around in Asia recently and saw a few Pentax cameras. A lady with a K7 at Ulaan Bataar airport and a few in Beijing at the touristy spots. Still outnumbered though...
Can't wait for the K5. Perhaps that camera (and a few good lenses like a 400/4 or a 500mm) will bring a new revival for Pentax.

Considering the fact that English is a second or third language for some of us, I think we are doing pretty good.

Cheers, Mike.
