It would be good if Pentax cameras are sold in stores and are publicly displayed. They feel really nice, that's what sells them.
the bigger camera stores here ( Henrys Vistek et all) keep all ILC under lock and key but with a large staff so seeing them is no issue. The Chain stores (Best Buy Futrue Shop Blacks etc) have all the lower end out to try (usually with no power nad lenses missing etc so kind of useless) - if i want to see a camera i'll generally go to the bigger specialist

while i was shopping for all the stuff i bought I noticed downtown camera now has a complete line of Pentax including 645z on display and they had just received a big pile of K50 kits for a promo (this was a while back) . Henry's actually had less pentax despite being a bigger store

Hm. The big chain here in Spain (MediaMarkt from Germany), at least the shop that I once in a while visit, has the Olympus Pen series, alpha 5000, more entry level Fuji, a K-30 and K-50, 1100D, D3100, ... that sort of camera out in the open. And of course a ton of point & shoot, bridge etc. cams. D7100 and above, OM-D series, etc. are behind glass. All cameras are complete with lens (would be stupid if not), but rarely have they power.

I suppose the staff would let me try, but I hate bothering people if I have no intention of buying.

The camera store in Malaysia that I used to frequent has 2 stores, both have the complete Pentax line up (including Pentax Q keychains), one of them also the 645D (now probably 645Z). The staff itself shoots mostly (if not exclusively) Pentax, though they do also sell other brands. Whenever I was there people were mostly interested in Pentax... might be related to them being the only shop in that area that sells Pentax gear. Other brands are available everywhere. Pentax workshops in that area they also participate in... sadly not many, and there was too much demand when I tried to participate.

A few days ago, I swapped gears with a buddy for around two to three hours.

His Nikon 7100 + Tamron 17-50(?) with my K30 + FA43. We compared notes afterwards, he's stunned and impressed with the FA43, and now he's been researching for days to build a system around some Pentax primes. Before that, he was apathetic to Pentax. Now, he bugs me every now and then about the primes: the FA Limiteds. I don't think he's really impressed with the K30, but the FA43 has sure been giving him some nightmares He seems to be seriously contemplating running two systems.
that's cruel, first time to try a Pentax and you cast the FA-Limited LBA hex on him! before long he'll thirst for one. Then the 77... Then the 31... Haha!

At least that will teach one Nikon guy a good Pentax lesson. I'll be hurting him where it hurts most--- his pocket!

He's scouting for a used K5 or K5II, I think he's planning for the 43 (walk around lens), and the 77, as he's contented with the 30-ish of Nikon.

Don't worry. Once he has a K-5 he'll sell his Nikon.

I agree, feeling it is what sells it. My chance came through a chance meeting with someone who had one. Most people do not get that chance unless a B&M shop has one.

I am starting to realise Pentax is getting lower and lower on the radar here. I was looking into possibly upgrading my kit, and looked around at what stores might be able to do me a deal, and it turns out Ted's is the only one that seems to supply these days... what on earth?! How is anyone new to the world of DSLRS going to even hear about Pentax when all I see at Christmas time are bargain deals for Canikon?

On the plus side, I am slowly trying to convert my small circle of friends, and hopefully another one will be purchasing one soon!!!

I haven't found one in Canberra, but Michaels Camera in Melbourne have a significant collection and there are stores in Sydney that are well stocked with Pentax too.

Digidirect and Digital Camera Warehouse both have pretty good sales websites.

That's good to know. Yet another reason to go into Sydney more often then!

Last I was in Ted's in Civic, they had some Pentax stuff. But looking online, the other major camera chains that have shopfronts in Canberra (where I could potentially talk to about a bundle deal) don't seem to stock them.

Yeah, Ted's has some, but not much. When I went there to look for a K30 about a year ago they only had the red one.

I met Canon fan tonight at the park. I've pushing my Pentax limits trying to get flying birds at late sunset . He was fishing near, and commented my efforts obviously showing that he is knowledgeable. I asked what camera he has, and he told he used to have, not any more. I told that I'm just messing around with settings, and then he told if I buy Canon, I will be blown away with it.
Well, I told that I do have Canon, and actually think about getting rid of it and stay with Pentax only.
He gave me kind of look.... You know that look, right?

There was a woman in the store I was in today buying her first DSLR - a K-50 paired with I think a Tamron 18-200mm or similar. Afterwards the shop owner said he'd sold nearly twenty of these combos leading up to Christmas. What 'we' want on this forum, and what 'normal' people want, is obviously very different. LOL.
