Zeiss film cameras were excellent and I've always been a bit surprised that a good Zeiss digital DSLR hasn't appeared.

But I don't think the popularity of Zeiss explains this. Here in the 1970s I'd see a lot of Pentax film cameras, and I bought two 35 mm Pentax SLRs here locally myself, which is how I became introduced to the brand. But now a person couldn't buy one locally if they tried. Pentax has lost market share for some reason. As a good, and all weather, DSLR it's odd.

No, CaNikon is recommended because Canon has by far the best AF system that makes it the first choice for any sports and action oriented shooter and Nikon offers great sensors with impressive dynamic range for landscape photography, plus a better AF system than Pentax still - plus both offer some amazing glass.

Portraying everyone who buys Canon or Nikon as simple sheep and us Pentaxians as different and so much more knowledgable is equally as ridiculous as the Pentax bashing by CaNikon users.

On this thread among other things:
- some are pissed off that other photographers alike don't recognize their skill because they use Pentax gear.
- some are really proud of their gear and conclude photographer using some other kind of camera than Pentax can't be good photographers (Canikon users, Canon rebel owners, people with kit lenses, people that don't use hood properly, people that don't change lenses often...).

This is also very funny when we think of it because the entry level DLSR of today may lack a bit in finish or AF functions but are still camera and typically use the latest and greatest sensors found in the higher end models.

When we compose this knowledge with the fact that many great photographers of the past did everything with very crude camera/lenses of that days, I'am not sure we have any right to criticize those that just happen to have made different choices than our.

Friend just posted a photo to facebook, and this black strap with orange lettering caught my eye. It appears to be a K20d

---------- Post added 02-21-15 at 17:21 ----------

Confirmed by the poster to be a k10d

Heads-up: In these few days I saw another K-3 and a K-5 ii/iis, both with DA 18-135mm lenses. Pentax have managed to sell many K-3's it seems

A recent observation from a sales person at Henry's:

" I can't believe this was taken with a Pentax camera !!! " ... relating to a picture of a snowy owl in flight I took this winter.

Seems like all "better" BIF/wildlife pictures are Canikony.

I wanted to buy a nikon initially, but I didn't want to spend 2 grand plus on a body, so I started looking at comparison reviews. Pentax kept popping up, first the k5, then k5ii finally the k3.

Value for money, I couldn't be happier. It's not a brand thing for me, but if I can see one company giving me more for the same price, that's where I'm going then

At our recent Pentax meet up we had other brand users who were there for a photo forum meet try to join our group because they saw a bunch of people with cameras.

We were happy to have them hang out with us but they ultimately ran off to find their group when we explained we were a group of users of Pentax.

Maybe they felt we had a mental disability of some sort

Many people look for other camera users to gain knowledge about camera specific techniques and settings. If you don't know their camera, you aren't much use to them.

You can't make them change their spots.

There must be something magic about these mountains - I saw a K3 user there once.
