Well, the Canons weren't exactly high end bodies (EOS 650D and 760D) but not that bad cameras either. However, up against a K5 IIs they felt quite limited and fiddly witch clearly affected the creative part of taking pictures.

* The bodies felt like platic toys compared to the more heavy and robust K5
* To have focus indication on the Canon's when using PK lenses required adapters with contacts but sometimes it did not work anyway
* In body image stabilization on the K5
* No "green button" feature on the Canon's so stop down metering where a bit tricky
* noise and dynamic range.. Here the K5 left them for dead.. Especially the 650D..

Also, and this is part of the reason for them to leave Canon.. The vast amount of old lenses available with fantastic optical performance available to Pentax cameras. How many of these can one buy for the price of one decent L-lens ?

Well the k-5 series is tough to beat. I have a k-5II and I just love it.
Yes indeed! Mine was a K5 IIs and it is a fantastic and very robust camera !

I try to wear one of my Pentax Forum T-shirts when I go someplace where I expect to see other photographers. Even if they don't notice my blue K-30, I'm hoping that my T-shirt will be some kind of advertisement for Pentax.

If I could get a T-shirt with a pocket - because I NEED that pocket! - then I would buy one in an instant, and wear it whenever I take my Pentaxes out, but I have never found one (if anyone can point me in the right direction then I will be vey happy!.

Regarding forum T-shirts with pockets… that's a really really good idea!

What photographer doesn't find themselves dependent on a shirt having a pocket? Oh wait, that was back in my medium format film days… as a place to put the dark slide. Now that we are in the digital era its probably not so needed… oh crap, now where did I put that lens cap?!

Not to mention... how many times have I set my remote down, and then managed to walk off ignorantly.

T's with pockets...I'm wearing one right now! Love 'em!

Now...on to the major question! Why can't a digital camera use the traditional cable release in addition to the electronic or electrical release? My 645n can use either kind! Why not my K 5? Inquiring minds want to know.....

Because that would require adding an electro-mechanical part that would only serve 1 purpose.
I'm fine with the remote, thanks (although I wouldn't mind a programmable delay).

A whole lot less rare with the advent of the fine FF K1.

Does it have the Pentax logo on it? Shame on you if it does not, but if it does then from where did you get it?

I'm not sure what you mean. I have a k-5II and I have a specific plug in socket for a cable release. It's electronic of course and not a remote. If you're saying cable release during the film days then I don't think there's any digital camera that has a feature for that.

Some digital cameras have a threaded shutter button so that soft press buttons can be mounted eg RX1RII - I probably wrongly assumed that these cameras also could use push button mechanical cables, no?

The old style buttons had a separate threaded top cap for the cable release or soft touch button. Seems easy enough to duplicate in addition to the electronic release cable. (no batteries required!)

I'm fabricating an accessory bracket that suspends the tip of a mechanical cable over the shutter button of the Q-bodies. Works - just looking for the best materials and shape now - and it's useful because the only Q option is an IR remote.

Now that you guys are saying that some cameras have it, it would have been great if that standard could have been continued to be used to all cameras. I wonder why it was discontinued by most manufacturers.
