Originally posted by grhazelton We went to the Atlanta Zoo's "Boo at the Zoo" event Sunday morning. The place was mobbed! Several adult Storm Troopers were there, along with Obi Wan Kenobe, any number of young dinosaurs, etc. I saw at least one Ghost Buster, a male of the species. Many cameras, the ubiquitous Canikons - most without lens hoods, or with hoods reversed, some bridge cameras, and of course one gazillion cell phones. Even the occasional tablet shooter. I can't imagine lugging that huge thing around to take a picture!
No Pentaxes to be seen. No big surprise.
I wonder why we have to criticize other "monorities" in the photographic world while we are ourselve a quite small minority.
I can certainly understand the appeal of a big screen compared to shooting with a phone or any camera without a viewfinder, in particular if you don't have that great eyesight. A typical modern tablet beat any EVF in term of level of details displayed. Again if you have no so great eyesight, the OVF might be not that practical or even a pain to use, anyway. It also allow a much better experience when reviewing the shots and showing them to others. It is the most effective devicet for post processing short of a full fledged computer. Like smartphone it has instant connectivity but unlike them it has great autonomy.
Many pros, use the device as a control monitor or distant shutter trigger or to show photos to clients. This is a key feature feature in advertisement of 645Z as an example.
A completely different consideration, for some reason this might be the only camera you have with you at that time even if it was un-intended. Or maybe your phone does a bad job at it and you don't want to spend more money to get something else...
No oftence intended here, but then I think why not use them as photographic tools?
I am sure one can get some outstanding shots with a tablet!
