Shot an event Sunday, when i still was shooting pentax i would be the only pentax guy 95 times out of 100. when i switched to fuji it was much the same. Sunday was different 3 fuji to 2 canon 1 nikon 1 sony . not pentax this time. first time in memory ive been in the majority . I do see a lot of variety in toronto though maybe because we have at least 4 different post secondary photography options (Fine arts at a Uni, Journalism at another, and then a community college more focused on the business of it and of course art school. I see everything up to large format at some point or another. the only camera store in recent time to fail was Lomography....its had its hipster day i guess

Yes, we are rare, but ..
I checked out the web site and they have a nice amount of Pentax stuff to draw from! Guess which site was just bookmarked!

On another note, I just started teaching another class and as usual, plenty of Canicons, one Sony and one Pentax (mine). At least I still know that I like the Pentax human interface better than any of the others out there!

I had an excuse to visit my nearest good real-world camera shop this morning (needed a replacement 18-55mm WR). It's Mifsuds in Brixham here in Devon, and it's a proper old-fashioned independent with knowledgeable staff and lots of new and used goodies to drool over. And look what they've got as the first thing you see when you walk in through the door:

Luckily my Pentax is always with me, so I took a snap.

Would they open a branch in the Atlanta, Georgia area?

Seems their business model is one B&M shop with online services available - what makes their scale big enough to do well.

Replicating knowledgeable staff is a problem for most businesses that try to grow.

Looks a bit like something from the 80s.

Did you acquire it or only see it?

Unfortunately it was only in kids' sizes so not really suitable for me

I made a mistake when I wrote that. I thought this was the 'latest acquisition' thread, not the 'rare' thread.

Waiting for the Pine Martens to come....

Mew lake, Algonquin Park

Thats a pentax K-1 with a DFA 150-450 on it, the first one I've seen in the wild. He's holding my Tammy....

Tess had her K-5, I had my K-1, we had the Canon guy outnumbered 3 to one. Bet that hasn't happened much in the past. After seeing a number of people with 150-600s, and all the whining on the forum, I was surprised how small it was. Regularly seeing people hauling around 500 and 600 ƒ4s, with all due respect, that lens is tiny. He also brought his 15-30 for landscapes. Not this guy but another guy (over ar Ragged Falls) who has an older Pentax, he couldn't actually remember which model (what the heck kind of Pentaxian is that?) asks me what lens he should buy for a safari he's going on next year. I explained a few options, Tess had the DA*200 on the camera, I pulled out the 60-250 for him to have a look at. His friend looked at me derisively and said "Are you a Pentax saleman or something?" I said "I've been accused of it before."

Maybe we're not that rare, we're just difficult to find. We belong to the Jedi clan.

Couple of hours ago a good fellow saw me struggling along at Heathrow departures with a K-1 and DFA* 70-200.

Asked what it was and it so turns out he's a fellow Pentaxian and a member of this very forum.

If they think I',m strange for using Pentax, they should see my collection of Kiev film cameras, both 35mm and medium format, LOL

Probably UK-only, but, tonight, the first episode of the BBC 1 TV series "Star Gazing Live Australia" is broadcasting - it's an astronomy live series and there was a feature on tourists (in the far future!) travelling to a planet around the star Proxima B (a LONG way from here!), and one of them has a camera, which turns out to be a film-era Pentax MX!!! ("technological continuity" seems to have been a little lacking on the part of the production team)

At times it seems I would have to go to Proxima B to run into another Pentax owners.
