Originally posted by tim60 I saw a man with a Pentax near the Oxford train station this afternoon. Compatibility with legacy kit was one of his motivating factors.
I am not a camera expert. I returned to Pentax in 2014 because I acquired an ME Super in 1983, and had my old lenses, which were not the best lenses, but were very good for 4" x 6" photos. With Pentax I could buy a camera body, without lenses to get restarted. Then I started acquiring many lenses. And, later I acquired my dad's old Pentax M 50mm f/1.7, which is a very high quality lens. With all my lenses now, it would be uneconomical for me to go to another system.
Leica would be fun, and with high quality, but what a price tag. I am not sure the photos I view from my cousin with a $5,000 Leica Camera AG Leica Q2 are measurably better than Pentax, but they might be.
If I went to another system, it would be Nikon, or Fuji, based upon the people and the quality of posts on Flickr, I view. One of my friends on Flickr posts wildlife photos occasionally and I cannot imagine taking a wildlife photo of a bird in action, with my current setup, that comes close. But then, I have not set up on the Mississippi River to take such photos. Maybe I should give it a try. For sport photos and wildlife photos he uses the Nikon D500. For still life and architectural photos he uses the Nikon D750. His D500 wildlife photos are beyond amazing.
Pentax cameras as good for still life, portrait, and architectural photos. That said one of my favorite photos is my own sport photo taken with a K-5, and Tamron 18-250mm f/4.5. I cropped it, alot.
The photo was better than the result of the play.
