Interestingly enough the first dSLR I held in my hands was a Pentax a friend of mine bought a while ago. It was one of the first Pentax dSLRs Pentax *ist something. I remember him talking about old/cheap/fast primes Then the wave of Canons came. 2 of my closest photography-friends own a 20d and 40d. One has Nikon d40 and another one just bought a used Nikon D90.

When I decided to buy my first dSLR 3 weeks ago I did some research and narrowed it down to Nikon D7000 and Pentax K5. I was considering Canon as my first option (because I could borrow lenses/advice from my Canon friends), however Canon does not have a model comparable to Nikon D7000/Pentax K5 in their line up. I was leaning towards the Nikon precisely due to the fact that Nikons are more widespread which does give a certain level of confidence in the brand. However since I have no brand addiction really, I was just waiting for the best deal and Pentax happened to be on sale (~$200 cheaper than the Nikon). So I got it.

And so far I do not regret this decision. A nice bonus was that my old Soviet lenses are M42 mount so I can use them with an adapter. Plus I really like this community. It seems that Canon and Nikon people are many and scattered around internet, while all Pentax users know this forum.

As for rare, lately I was shooting mostly film (when I had time) with my Leica M3, Zenit 19 and sometimes Zorki 3M. This is when I get really weird looks from other people

"OMG! What's that stuff you're putting in the back of your camera??? A "film". Canikon doesn't use that! Maybe its one of those new compact digitals that just came out, it seems small..."

That's a nice set up you have. And the Leica is always a classic and QUIET! Sometimes its hard to tell you've tripped the shutter! One of the best cameras for street candids going!

I love its shutter sound. So smooth/silky and solid at the same time if you know what I mean. Especially compared to the Zenit Leica is candid unless you happen to bump into a Leica lover

I took pix at my granddaughter's pre-school Christmas party for parents and friends. There was the usual scrum of Canikons, both DSLRs and point and shoot, and of course the cell-phone crowd. As we were leaving I saw a DSLR in front of a young mother; the name was SIX letters! We gave each other thumbs up for our shared discernment in cameras.

And the camera was in tasteful, always in season, basic black....

Went to a Christmas party from work over the weekend. To my utter surprise, there was one Canon shooter, one Nikon shooter, and TWO Pentax shooters (me included). So to draw a Canikon conclusion, there are now as many Pentax shooters as Canon and Nikon put together.

Singapore monthly outing - Dec 2011.
Just some of the Singapore Pentax users who came out early (6am) to shoot the city skyline. Met many more members who were at the Botanic Gardens to shoot macro.
