It's night and I'm on the deck of a Hurtigruten ferry north of Tromso, Norway. The Northern Lights are putting on a great show. They appear quite bright so I have the ISO up high and I'm trying to get a handheld shot with my K5. No luck. Just blackness on the display. Then I spot a guy with a camera on a tripod and, from a distance, I can see he's getting some great shots. So I wander over and ask him what sort of camera he has and what settings he's using. I cannot believe it. He has the same camera as me! Another Pentax user. Quite amazing. So I follow his advice and get some great shots (30-40 seconds, tripod, if you're interested). After a while my hands are frozen solid and I need to go inside to thaw (as does everyone at some point). So there's a cluster of people just inside the door thawing out. And, there is a woman with one of those blue Pentax DSLRs. Two in the space of 10 minutes or so.

I was at the Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetlands Centre, UK, today. Saw a lady with a K 100D.

Was the only Pentax I saw at a road race this weekend, just saw Canikons. Some guy came over to me and asked me what camera I had, I told him a Pentax K-30, he looked confused, said he had a Nikon, had never heard of Pentax, and walked away.... never got to find out which Nikon, and where it was.

Hmm... Maybe we should start a thread on Pentax user sighting in the photo sub-forum!

Photo submission would require:

-at least a portrait of yourself with the sighted user!

-Snipe shots or candid shots of the sighted user may be submitted but a simple hello and handshake with a photo together to start off would be best! (encourage and foster friendship within the Pentax community)

What say you guys?

Edit: I have a portrait together taken quite awhile back during a Cosfest event. Lemme see whether i can find it amongst my shot-for-fun-and-left-unprocessed folder..

Oh dear, I have let the side down.

I have just come back from a 6 night break in Barcelona and walking around I spotted 5 different Pentax users in just two of those 6 days.

I could hardly race up to them and shake their hands for two reasons.
1, I have a Sumsung GX20
2. I have leaft it at home and was using my Lumix TZ 6 travel light compact.

they would yelled really loud and called the Guardia Civil (cops).

So you lot feel left and alone, with Samsung GX20 even Billy Nomates doesnt return my calls.

Ah, the ignorance of the masses. I remember chatting at length with a guy who'd spent his career in film production, etc. He saw my K5 and seemed surprised that Pentax was still around. And this was a guy who should have known better!

I've seen 6 Pentaxians in the wild - only one in SoCal.

1 here in Santa Clarita, California (even had an 18-200 Sigma lens as well!)
1 on Oahu - they used my camera to take a picture of me - and she said 'I know that camera - (k-x red)'. Hers was a K-7 I believe - I used to take their picture.
2 on Princess Cruise ship to Alaska - the ultra rare 645D (I have a picture!), and another person that lent me their prime lens (Sigma 18-200 fogged up) - I'm not sure what model of camera it was.
1 on the ferry between Friday Harbor, WA and Port Townsend WA sitting across from me - K5 or K7 I'm not sure (didn't get close enough).

Mmm, interesting. So 50% of those you have seen have been on a ship? See my note earlier where I encountered two at the same time (plus mine) on a ship. The answer's out there somewhere.

To be fair - the one in Oahu was probably from a cruise ship as well (Dole plantation on Oahu - tourist as well)
