My elder daughter is in a photography-related industry. She actually started down the path of SI Sports shooter, then ESPN, but was recruited to network news. Her owned-camera progression the last 15 years (not counting school gear, which was outrageously top-of-line Canon):

KX film > K1000SE > (School Gear) > EOS film > iPhone > Q.

She gets really interesting, incredulous comments about Q. She regularly printed better small photographs from her iPhone that her married, Canon-toting, baby-shooting friends. She's had the Q about 10 days - noting finished yet.

I've found some of the programs I've tried to run with Wine either didn't run at all, or were wonky. I'll admit I'm not a Linux pro, and perhaps there was a library or two I should have installed or tweaked.

The roots run deep.

My father taught Chemical Engineering at WVIT in Montgomery for many years. He shot with an AsahiFlex IIb, tubes, bellows, etc. Lots of nature and close-ups. Late he bought a ME-Super with an f1.4. I now have both cameras, plus my own stable of Pentax gear. Gotta keep the faith!

At a wedding now. One of the wedding photographers at least is shooting Pentax. The video DSLR guys are using Canon of course. The groom is a Pentaxian.

STOP THE PRESSES!

Yesterday I had the unique (?) experience of attending a fine art nude shoot with 3 other photographers, and for once I was not the outsider.

Cameras in use -

Nikon D300s (which had trouble focusing quite good light for some reason)
Canon something or other. Possibly 70D
Pentax K-5
Pentax K-3 (with a spare K-5 body in my bag)

Yes folks, thats right ,we were in the MAJORITY! The wheel is slowly turning.

The host/instructor guy made the comment at one point about the mixed lighting in the room (flash heads and ceiling flouro's) and advised that there may be some colour balance issues and it may be better to consider converting the images to B&W. The other Pentax guy and me just looked at each other with a knowing smile. We knew our auto white balance would not have the same problems the other (particularly Canon) models may have. We were able to have a quick conversation about it, along the lines of - 'I've never understood what the problem with AWB is, and finally here is someone shooting a Pentax who knows what I'm talking about, - how neat. '

For some reason there a lot of Pentax shooters here in Adelaide, South Australia.
There are always a few at the camera club and other outings.

Forget the nudes. I want to see the 100% crop of the lower-right hand pixel. Ha, then we'll see just how good is the K-3.

But i digress. Wiz, thanks for the anecdote about two Pentax shooters in the same room - I imagine there was more than one exchange of knowing smiles!

I know my K-5 certainly does a better job with WB than my K20D did, but to be honest, in mixed lighting situations like your's I prefer shooting with my Olympus.
