...that was the only relevant clip from the movie I could find - at least it's in English!

This past Thursday was the first meeting of the year for the Arts of the Albemarle camera club. We had two new members. whenever we get new members we introduce ourselves, tell what we shoot and with what equipment. The two new members both shoot Canon, I made a point of paying attention to what gear was mentioned, it was about equal parts Canon and Nikon for the majority with one Panasonic, 2 Sony, and 2 Pentax. I took my new K5iis which was well received by several members, one of which I may be converting to Pentaxian once he see's the error of his Canonite ways.

Today I was at a Mediaworld store, one of the big retailers here in Italy (don't know if it's also elsewhere, could very possibly be).
Lots of (mostly outdated) Canons, lots of (mostly outdated) Nikons, lots of mostly everything and ONE Pentax, with the kit lens on.

...
Yeah, it was a white K-S1 with a white lens...

I hear that PentaxForums actually hires actors to come in here and act like Pentax owners. We're that rare! Can you guess which ones?
This is so funny I started to cry I was laughing so hard... then I started to cry because it's funny because of the grain of truth in it. We are a minor blip in the photo world, I have been down this path before. I am a former <gasp> Palm Pre smartphone user.

Please no one run me out on a rail as a bad luck charm...

Walking along Lake Catani in the Australian Alps last week, I didn't expect to run into a couple brandishing a yellow K-01 with 100mm Macro lens ...

Last weekend I ran across three photographers carrying Pentax cameras at the local zoo. The first was a couple shooting a K-5iis. As I came upon them, they were swapping out what looked to be a DA limited lens (DA 70?) for the 18-135. Then I ran across a young female Japanese tourist toting a navy blue K-30 and the DA 50-200. And finally, I ran across an individual shooting an old film Pentax (K1000?) with a third party prime lens. This was the first time I had ever seen any Pentax SLRs in the wild here locally.

I see another Pentax user perhaps twice a year. I do know that here in Austin, TX, Precision Camera sold all their stock of K-3's with the free battery grip this Christmas season and the Ricoh table was fairly busy during the last "expo" they had. Personally, I am enjoying my new K-3 very much...significant upgrade from the K20 I had for years. Pentax was gone from Precision for some time. Last year the owner said that they did not even have a rep. Ricoh has done a great job reviving the Pentax brand.

Don't worry. Once he has a K-5 he'll sell his Nikon.
How about a K-3? I am loving mine.

There was a woman in the store I was in today buying her first DSLR - a K-50 paired with I think a Tamron 18-200mm or similar. Afterwards the shop owner said he'd sold nearly twenty of these combos leading up to Christmas. What 'we' want on this forum, and what 'normal' people want, is obviously very different. LOL.
There are actual stores that sell Pentax In the Los Angeles area (~15 million people in the greater LA area), there's only one shop that carries any Pentax gear, and they have only 4 lenses - 18-55, 50-200, 16-50 and 60-250mm, along with 'a' K-3. The stores here won't carry or stock Pentax... its like a curse word .

Not a direct sighting but, in the January issue of Arizona Highways magazine on the contents page, the photo was taken with a Pentax 645 and Fuji film. Sadly it doesn't say when the photo was taken.

That's how it is... Hopefully this link works: https://www.google.cz/maps/@50.081456,14.42443,3a,75y,20.82h,74.21t/data=!3m...!2e0!3e2?hl=en This is the situation in the biggest local store. Every brand has its own shop-in-shop (some even multiple corners), only Pentax cameras and lenses are cramped in one small cabinet, even without any company logo.

Anytime I'm there and ask for something Pentax-related, the shop assistants glance at me like I'm kind of endangered species.

Long ago this yhing called the Internet killed most of the local camera shops. It isn't odd to me that they only carry what they can sell rapidly - the long tail is filled by Amazon and B&H etc.
