I don't think I have never seen a Pentax DSLR that I didn't own and nobody's ever said anything to me about it, not that I'd care one whit. Back when I worked as a reporter/photographer for a community newspaper, I was usually the only working photographer with a Minolta. I was occasionally kidded about it but never disrespected. When we talked shop, it inevitably involved techniques that were basically cross-platform. One winter night, when I was covering a house fire, my camera went dead from the cold and one of the other photogs from a different paper kindly loaned me his spare Nikon to continue shooting with. Now THAT was professional courtesy.

When it came to digital, I was a very late adopter because of the steep price tag of CaNikon gear, amplified by the fact that with Minolta out of the picture (pun intended), I was starting from scratch with new lenses and everything. Three years ago, Pentax was my ticket into the world of DSLR photography and I haven't looked back yet.

Recently got the opportunity to teach a nature photography seminar at Rocky Fork State Park. With over 30 participants, there were 4 Pentaxes! 2 K 20d's, one K 5IIs, and one K R. We actually outnumbered the Canon DSLR's - but not the Nikons...

At the first session of a recreational course last night there was not another Pentax in sight.
The rest of the class was about 50/50 Canon and Nikon.

However, the more I get used to it, the nicer it seems...

The idea that everyone's supposed to get their cameras from two sources among more of a dozen in the market is just too alien to me.

What lenses we have has a lot to do with it.

On Saturday (Aug. 22nd) my wife and I were hiking a 1.2 mile trail in the California Redwoods and started up a conversation with another couple (locals) who hiked the trails on the weekends. I was toting my K-x and ME Super and at the time had them both out as I had been taking some film shots. The lady held up her camera and pointed out we were both Pentax users. I didn't notice she had an XG-1 till she pointed it out.

I just got back from 2 weeks in Hawaii, and did not see a single other Pentax.

Just finished a three-week vacation in the Pacific North-West, and my K-5, my wife's X90 and my son's *istDS were the only Pentaxes we saw. The others were one Sony, one Lumix G, one Olympus OM-D and more canikons than you could reasonably shake a stick at. We got friendly with a Californian couple on Vancouver island who were using a middling Nikon APS-c (don't know which one exactly) but the look of dismay on his face was priceless when he felt the heft and solidity of my K-5/HD20-40 Ltd combo.

Just got back from a vacation to Samos, one of the Greek Islands.
Saw many (really a lot of) Canon Powershot, One guy with a Canon 5D mk3, a few Nikon D7200 and D3200, a couple of Panasonic Lumix, and one K20D.

I had a session with a few of the Canoneers, and they were really quite impressed with the low light capabilities, especially the low light focusing .

Just came back from two weeks on the Olympic Peninsula and in the Seattle area-

8/22 ran into a forum member hiking up the Hurricane Hill trail! Congratulated him on his good taste in cameras. ;-)
8/27 brushed by a guy in Pikes Market- too quick to talk
8/27 In the gift shop at the Chihuly glass exhibit- older woman looking at buying a piece- white body, black lens.
8/28 At the EMP cafe- older asian gentleman.

So four in two weeks... not too bad! Sorry, I'm not good at IDing camera bodies/lenses, and too shy to talk to most people. :-(

I was on the Denali park bus a couple of weeks ago. In addition to my K-3, there was a young lady with a K-5, and another gentleman with a K-3. Both of our K-3's were sporting the DA* 300/4.

That must break the record or density of Pentaxes in a small space.

I saw a guy wielding a Pentax WG compact at the monthly art walk in downtown Kansas City. I'm seeing Pentaxes rarely, but 2015 has been a bumper year for spotting them in the wild.
