When asked 'why do you own a Pentax?'

My answer is "So my work doesn't look like everyone else's."

It's the same reason I want the Aja Cion,..."If everyone's shooting on Red with Zeiss lenses, they all look the same, and mine stands out from the crowd."

I had nothing constructive to say, but This speaks for me.

In reality, Pentax is strong, it's just that there's lots of users that have been in hibernation.

When Pentax ruled the roost back in the 1960's I couldn't afford one so when it was time to switched from Film to Digital I looked at all the brands and chose Pentax (the K200D actually) partially because in my mind I knew the brand was good and partially because having studied economics the sensor shift mechanism appealed to me far more than the thought of having to buy a new shake stabilisation system with each new lens just did not make financial sense. That was in 2008, there is one other Pentax user in my small club but the majority use Canon followed by Nikon and one Olympus Pen user.

There have never been any derogatory remarks just curiosity and a somewhat startled reaction when they realised the range of lenses I was able to buy for relatively little money.

It seems to me however that Canon have won the advertising war hands down.

They and Nikon are laying off staff everywhere.

That expansion into high volume, low margin supporting advertising and sponsorships galore has collapsed.

Smaller niche companies didn't commit themselves to that Walmart space (I think the K-500 was an experiment in that direction, IIRC).

If you want proper documentation with pictures worth showing, there is no compromise to images taken by a DSLR. I never use smart phones for important events like this.

I stumbled on a street fair in the Junction, a neighborhood in Toronto. I regret not having a camera, but I am pleased to report that 100 percent of the DSLRs I saw were Pentanes (namely one).

Regular day of waling around and visiting a museum:
I saw another pentax user, I think it was an apsc k3/k5/k7 with a zoom like the 18-135.
Saw another Nikon camera of the same category, and the rest entry level dslr and a few entry level mirror less So for the enthusiast (?) category, today pentax was one of the most popular cameras I saw if I'm counting my K3II Sampling bias ftw!
