I'm not in the US, actually am in canada, and I guess I'm lucky because in montreal all well known photo store sell pentax (I mean, sure Best Buy and alike don't, but still). Aside from the great features the brand offers, the fact that I could actually hold the thing in my hand and compare it to canikon offers is what actually convinced me to buy a k-s2. Fell in love immediately.

That's very great because I feel like pentax isn't really known or popular amongst younger people. Heck I'm 26 and everybody I know all own very pricey fuji, canon or sony.

And I'm here looking for old vintage lenses for my dslr and having fun buying 50$ old gems I can play with

So Sunday was spent watching planes do their stuff (OK, the pilots had something to do with it too) at the NY Air Show. I saw no other Pentax camera there. However, with my K-1 and 70-300 DG, I did get his image.... Note, this is NOT cropped!

Happy 4th of July all!

And they said K-1 AF is lousy. Looks like you proved them wrong.

Watching the cinematic masterpiece Godzilla vs. Destroyah with my two boys yesterday. It gets to a scene where Godzilla is smashing and destroying Fukuoka by shooting fire lasers out of various orifices, and my 10-year-old remarks "hey, that sign said Pentax!" Whatta you know, there was a neon Pentax sign. The movie was made in 1993, so probably not as surprising as it would be in a 2017 movie.

Here in Mexico, the Liverpool department store offers Pentax brand eguipment. But I sadly see that the physical units in display (K-50 black and red) are just gathering dust. No publicity, no special prices. Heck, the CaNikons have their own displays and cabinets while the Pentax is jumbled with other photography parafernalia. I have also lectured the sales persons about the outstanding features and history of the brand, several times to no avail. Actually, I wouldn't go so far as to say they are actually selling the CaNikons any better either, since my focus is only Pentax when I visit the store.

Flora and I visit the Atlanta Zoo fairly often with the grand kids. On recent visits I've rarely seen "real" cameras, let alone Pentax. Most folks are using cell phone cameras, the rare DSLRs are almost all Canikons of various sorts.

At the UK RIAT airshow yesterday, a guy with a 150-450 on what I think was a K-1, but I don't think he looked very happy for some reason.

OTOH, I used the K-3 II with the 100-300 F4 Sigma (and occasionally the 1.4x TC) - worked pretty well most of the time because the jets fly fast but at least that's in pretty much straight lines and so the AF issues were less important than at shows with prop planes because they turn tighter, and you have to use much slower shutter speeds (1/320 V 1/1000 or faster) for the latter.

It seems that members of the Japanese military use Pentax in their official capacity.

Nice. More evidence 3 out of 4 soldiers are more interested in Pentax than in official proceedings. 😏

I wonder if the photographer normally prefers live view over viewfinder technique, or if it's just an accommodation to his headgear. He'd probably have to tilt his hat back to an unapproved angle with the camera held up to his eye.

Sssssshhhhhh, people. This guy is a Jedi samurai warrior. Keep quiet or the Canikony ninjas will identify him.

Was shooting a few photos of an old Saab whilst on holidays in Italy today and a man walked past, took his phone from his ear and asked:

"Kappa Uno?"

"Si!"

"Io ho la kappa Tre!"

and so he continued his phone call and I heard him explain what it was about.

Made up for the store I visited to have sold a Pentax M 80-200 4.5 I saw they had.

In fact, I think it was even better than buying the lens.

Let me know if you read this, I visit every year and we could shoot some photos next time. Sadly I'm not very good at speaking Italian but I understand fine.

I failed to mention, the store I visited had a K-1 and a KP for sale (both with 4years of warranty!) and a used K-3.
Might have had more cameras but from my cursory glance I had the impression that Pentax was pretty well represented!

I spent a week in Northern - ish Ontario, and to be honest, I saw maybe 5 DSLRs in total, which was a surprise to me. Maybe this thing about people using their phones instead of cameras is true after all...
