I Switched to PENTAX - YouTube
"Photography is a geeky hobby. Pentax doesn't try to hide that."
"You can touch the back screen but it doesn't do anything."

Well, OK then.

Well the tally from my last photography class is in:
2 Nikon D3X00/D5X00 series
3 Canon tX/tXi series
1 Canon P&S
1 Sony A6X00
1 Canon EOS R with (I think an 85 1.2 but I'm not sure)
1 unknown P&S
1 camcorder (he's going to have a LOT of fun in a still photography class)
1 with no camera yet
4 with an unknown or unconfirmed camera (because I didn't see them with a camera or couldn't see what they have)
And myself with the lone Pentax in the class.
I am taking a class right now at the Glassell School of Art (part of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston) and, like you, I am the lone Pentax user. My count is not as detailed as yours, but it is Canons and Nikons with one Sony and perhaps one FujiFilm. It's fun to be different.

It is. The instructor is actually using one of the Canon EOS Rebels. But I didn't include him in the list so it's really about 4 Canon Rebels.

In my local camera club -- one of four in the Ottawa-Gatineau area -- there are 40-50 regular attendees. Without taking a full survey, I know of four members who shoot with Pentax. So, we'll say 10%.

That Chinese guy is crazy, but we could do with more "salesmen" like that. From the beginning I was worried he would drop his camera as he was holding it so casually, but then he started tossing it in the air!

Try catching earlier vlogs on you tube 'Digital Rev' - his abuse of cameras does not stop with tossing them in the air.

"OK, I might not have actually switched. I just have lots of bloody cameras." He's always tongue-in-cheek like that. Maybe it's his accent, but also his attitude and approach... makes me think he grew up watching Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear.

I've been watching him for years and I know he's doing a lot just for the show but something tells me that he's serious on this one but of course with caveats. He's a big fan of OVF after all.

I think what he's trying to say is, he's bought a Pentax with his own money.

Like it or not, it's a much needed good publicity and marketing for Pentax especially he's quite popular.

We are a rare species and please keep it that way.

The local camera shop has a lens suitable for Pentax that I am interested in.
He claims the lenses are rare.
Absolutely true but so are the buyers!
I am waiting for a better proposition.

Yes, Pentaxians are rare, and yes, older Pentax Takumar lens are very desirable, however some are more rare or common than others. There are many Pentax Takumar that are plentiful and very common and some that are not. Be sure to pay a fair price for used Pentax Takumar lenses. Check used lens prices from various sources. This includes websites such as those KEH, eBay, and the Pentax Forum Lens Database.

Of course we're rare. We are Jedi photographers. We're suppose to be rare.

Guess what. I just found out yesterday that one of my colleagues has a Pentax. She's about to go on maternity leave and decided that it was time to start to learn taking decent (i.e. non cell phone) pictures and I found her reading the manual for her K-50.
