Rare only means not a lot of people bought them. Why people didn't by them has to be known before rare is good. If it was because they were really good lenses but very expensive, rare is good. If they were so cheap nobody wanted them, rare is bad. I have rare FAJ 18-35. It cost me $100 CAD, new old stock. It had probably been sitting in the warehouse for 20 years. Rare but cheap.

Last weekend, I went to the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition in Bristol. As might be expected, almost all the photographs were taken with a Canon or Nikon DSLR. Mirrorless entries were few and far between (I noticed one Sony). I don't think any were taken with a Pentax, sadly.

I didn't know about this exhibition, that's great thank you. Will definitely go now. Shame about Pentax not being around though and unappreciated.

I just saw another Pentaxian today (Taipei). I bought a mint condition silver MX-1 with a limited edition Pentax Leather case from him.

Very nice, but is he still a Pentaxian after selling his MX-1?

Good question, the people I bought my 21 ltd. and Tamron 90 macro from were both switching to other brands. My 90 macro came from a guy who's brother wanted to have them use the same systems for help carrying lenses on outings, two people, one set of lenses, and actually bought him a base Nikon system. The 21 came from a guy who was also switching to Nikon , but keeping some of his Pentax gear.

But, this only goes one way. I usually don't sell a lot of stuff, if you're selling stuff you meet people who are buying into Pentax, if you are buying stuff, you meet some people who're getting out. Although most of my second hand purchases were from people staying with the brand.

lol...I asked him and he says he still has Pentax gear. But, yes, very suspicious to sell a mint MX-1 when they are becoming priced possessions for Pentaxians. The price was so low that I feel bad posting it.

Wow! Is that a PENTAX!?!?!?!? I haven't seen one of those in YEARS! Can I... can I have a go?
-A very excited Canon user I met at the beach.

Quite a nice guy actually - I would assume he was of a more professional caste than myself - we swapped cameras, and he had about £10k of kit right there - EOS-1D, though I didn't notice the exact model, but judging by the scuffs and scrapes I'd expect it to be one of the older models - I was too busy being impressed by how comfy it was to hold and how smooth the rings on the lens were to notice! They made my hands happy! I suppose at that price point, you should probably expect happy hands.

I just realised this was a reversed "I saw a pentax" story - this was more of an "I was seen with a Pentax" tale!

The older Canon and nikon top line cameras feel better the older they are. The leather just gets more comfy over time if used regulary.
My old D1 feels pretty nice too.

I'm here at my son's school for the 28th foundation day. Canon I think 7, Nikon I think 5, finish our 4. Pentax, only me. Cellphones about 400. Well, all camera brands are now rare. With Pentax being the rarest of them all.

More rare than Hasselblad, Leica, Fuji? IDK. I take it that these other brands you saw were ILCs - no compacts?

Darn I missed Hasselblad. Ok. But yea 2 Fujis. So Hasselblad and Leica are more rare.
