Where'd you start - 35mm SLR or dSLR?

Me too, and I thought that I was the only person in the world with this camera

I actually started photography with the Agfa Isola 6x6 from my parents after I repaired it

So I did not start photography with a SLR, so I can not vote.

First SLR was a Vivitar screw mount body and a Pentax lens in the early 70s. I bought the Vivitar body over the Pentax because of its metal shutter--which irreparably jammed a few years later.

Program Plus with SMC A 50 1.7 in 80`s, still have them. Light-seals in camera are going, the lens is still fantastic.

I started with a Minolta SRT-201 SLR in 1976. I ended up giving it to a teenage friend of my daughter's that was going into a photography class.

From the looks of the results, most of us are holdovers from film. Mine was a K1000, now dead, from '78 I think.

I got a minolta srt100 in '71 then went to a 6x6 mamiya tlr in '75 and my first pentax was a k1000 around '83 I think. I remember the A lenses were just coming out and I got an A 50mm f1.4 with it, in case I ever got an automatic body.

My first SLR was a *ist film camera that I got in 2002 (I think). It was a pretty awesome camera. Tiny, but easy to manage, with a grip that held AA batteries. I can't think of how many rolls of film I shot with it.

Followed it up with a K100, K10, K20 and a K7. The only ones I still own are the K20 and K7.

First cam: a Brownie, followed by a few other 120 P&S/VF's, all lost now.

First SERIOUS cam: an ancient German 1934 Kodak Retina I folder VF, the first 135 camera ever made. That's where I learned exposure -- hand metering, then just judge light, and judge distance too. Stolen long ago, but I now have (and use) its near clone, a mid-1950s Voigtlander Vito II.

First paying camera: YashicaMat 124G MF TLR. Stolen long ago, but it shot my first sold prints.

First SLR: Olympus Pen-FT half-frame 135 system. So small! So precise! Stolen long ago.
Other SLRs: Well, I used Nikon and Hassy stuff, but that was work, and I didn't own it.

First digicam: Sony DSC-P20, 1mpx VF/P&S. Fixed lens, fat juicy pixels. I still use it.
Best-loved digicam: Sony DSC-V1, 5mpx with IR, 4x Zeiss zoom, full control. I'm on my third.

First dSLR, first Pentax: K20D. And now a zillion lenses. Fascination has become obsession.

I voted, because the Oly Pen-FT was indeed a SLR, even though it wasn't my photographic cherry-buster. I grew up in Dad's little darkroom but he didn't let me play with his Minolta Autocord or Rolleicord or other fine stuff -- that's why I had the Brownie(s). So now I have ~40 cameras (and there are some I can't find). Y'know, this may be the last generation that uses SLR's. Oh sure, a few nutcase antiquarians may still be clutching their 645N's in 2025, but everyone else will have gone to multispectral implants. And the changes just keep on coming...

Started 2 years ago with my fathers old SLR; Voigtländer VSL3-E. Had problems with it, so I replaced it with another SLR (SuperA) and got a DSLR over a year ago (K-m). Still prefer film and will start developing my own B&W film soon hopefully.

My first SLR was a Spotmatic in early 70's. Then to a ME Super in early 80's.
Then to a ZX-7 in early 2000's. Then finally digital with a K100d a few years ago. Got a K-x last year.
Still have them all. Mostly shelf queens but still loaded with film and ready to go.

I started back in the early '80s using my Fathers all-manual Minolta - I don't remember the model number, but he still has the camera. I remember it being very simple and easy to adjust aperture and shutter speed on the fly with manual focus at the same time. I did a lot of photography for our high school yearbook and newsletter.

I guess that's what attracted me to Pentax, it seemed to be the manufacturer who best understood the old manual way of taking photographs and translated that into the digital realm. I'll shoot in aperture or shutter priority a lot.

My father just bought one of the newer Sony alpha DSLRs in hopes of using his nice old glass on the new DSLR. He's getting older so the tilt-out LCD screen with live view really appealed to him.

After a couple of P&S (1 film, 1 digital), I dove into the DSLR world with a K-7 and the two WR kit lenses. I love the K-7 and the kit lenses seem sharp, but I just wish I could afford some primes right now... never shot with a prime, but hopefully they're live up to the hype because I plan on getting some in the future. I'm at the beginning and I am just excited for this new hobby.
