K7 Firmware Updates

Hi ,

My K7 has firmware version 1.0 - I wish to upgrade to version 1.10 - Do I have to update each version between 1.0 and 1.10 or do I go straight to version 1.10 ?

Has anybody done the upgrade and found that it improve camera performance ?

Thanks for your kind advice.

Adam.

you can go straight to 1.10.

can't answer your other question, though, since i don't own a k-7.

I've upgraded (and confirm you can miss all the other updates) and noticed no difference. But others here claim to notice differences. I don't know, I just take pictures!

Yes, you can go straight to the latest firmware, and this will include all updates made in previous releases. Performance aside, there are new features in the latest firmware, so you'd likely want to upgrade regardless. These include:

* New custom function "Operate at AF Point 'SEL" allows four-way controller function in record mode to be changed to mimic that of earlier Pentax DSLRs
* New "Fine sharpness 2" mode for JPEG images
* Lens distortion correction and lateral chromatic aberration correction data added for the smc PENTAX-FA 31mm F1.8 AL Limited, smc PENTAX-FA 43mm F1.9 Limited and smc PENTAX-FA 77mm F1.8 Limited
* In-camera movie editing
* Electronic level display mode on rear-panel LCD
* Ability to display electronic level in viewfinder for Manual of Flash Sync exposure modes without obscuring exposure meter display
* Ability to focus in live view mode with shutter button half-press
* Reversal (slide) film custom image mode added

There are definitely some performance increases, too. Pentax has disclosed the following:

* Improved preview speed for Water Color and Pastel filters
* Improved movie recording performance with some SDHC cards (potentially allows MUCH longer clip lengths on slower cards)

There are also a number of bug fixes:

* Fix for instability when left AF point selected
* Improved stability with portrait grip rear e-dial
* Improved accuracy of orientation detection (not clear if for record, playback, or both)
* Improved contrast detection AF speed in live view mode

...and quite likely other undisclosed minor changes, the most notable of which is a fix for one or more fine vertical green lines appearing in images shot with some K-7 bodies when the sensor was particularly warm.
