K-x / K-7 back LCD - turn it off?

I have had the K-x a little while now and generally I like it. But one of the most annoying things is how often the back Info display comes on the LCD. After I take a photo... there it is. In low light event photography the last thing I want is a bright LCD in my face. On the K20D I turn off the instant review and I am good to go. If I turn off instant review on the K-x I still get the Info screen after every single shot.

Is there any way to turn this off?

Does the K-7 suffer from the same issue?

Info button? That's how it worked on my K100D and Canon 1000D . . .

Thanks so much, Ryan. Info button TWICE does the trick.

I find the whole interaction between Menu and Info darned confusing on this thing.

Like you I sought to turn it off.

Keep in mind, though, for those bright days at the beach or whatever, that turning it on will let you point the camera and adjust exposure when all of the controls in the viewfinder are washed out and hard to see...

In the end it takes the place of the top LCD and I think is a bit more ergonomic...

woof!

Thanks for that information. I looked in the manual but must have missed it. Darn helpful for shooting in very low light when you don't want to mess up your night vision between shots.

I had the same issue for a month on my K-7, I thought i had all the LCD options off, but i had to use Info x2 to remove it, very annoying.

Thankfully i had missed on LCD review options in the menu, now my Camera only shows the back LCD if press the Play or Info buttons.

Wow, good to know I am not the only one!

I don't miss the top panel and would miss it less with an articulated LCD. That was really something I expected to see on the next gen of bodies.

How to turn all the annoying lights and screens off on the K-x:
QuoteQuote:
how to turn everything off on the K-x's display so stuff wasn't always flashing me in the face.

When I now start the K-x up, I get a blank screen at the back by default. When I shoot an image, no annoying instant review image comes up, nor anything else either. The power on LED on top of the camera is also off all the time, and there is also nothing displayed when I change mode dial settings.

To turn off the back display status screen under capture mode, press the INFO button until you get a blank screen. It will stay blank until you turn the camera off or press another button.

To have the camera start up with a blank status screen, make the screen blank by pressing the INFO button until the screen is blank, then go into the Menu, page 4, and under 'Memory', go to p2 and make sure the 'Shooting Info Display' item is ticked. Then exit the Menu and restart the camera. You will then always start up to a blank status screen.

To turn off the Instant Review, goto Menu, p3 and turn off 'Instant Review'.

To turn off the top LED, go to the Custom Menu, Item 20, and set the 'Power lamp' to off.

To turn off the Mode Dial guide display as you change shooting modes, go into Menu > Settings > Guide Display, and set it to Off.

Good post rawr: I believe those points should fix the OP's problem, as i'm sure it was the same on my K-7.

Another useful post from ogl, who cannot even spell correctly. This should be "RTFM" as it is an acronym. Maybe you should RTFM for English?

Robin, OGL is not native English speaker and neither am I. I don't think it is particularly good idea to point out one's English mistakes the way you did...

I am well aware of this and in normal polite conversation have no problem giving people the benefit of the doubt. Day to day most of the people I meet are not native English speakers. My wife teaches ESL. Etc. Etc. Etc.

But it is good policy for him to insult me? With a completely useless post? I am pretty tired of all these negative energy posts and have no problem whatsoever pointing out the weaknesses of people who choose to be so rude.

P.S. I have read the manual but it was not handy when I posted my request. And the request has obviously been useful to other people. Insulting someone for asking a question is bullying pure and simple.

P.P.S This is ogl's typical behaviour. I have not called him on it many times before. Sorry, buddy, but your time has run out!
