Just Sold my Canon Gear

So I just sold my Canon gear on craigslist and will be placing an order for a pentax dSLR in th next couple of days.

I had been planning on buying a k10D but was recently informed that Samsung sells the same camera for a lower price, other than the name on the front is there any reason not to save the $100 and buy the gx10 instead of the k10d?

Is the build quality the same?

The samsung is probably not compatible with the new pentax SDM motor lens in the DA star line-up as well as upcoming Pentax lenses.

I know it doesn't answer your question but you should know that dell has the k10d kit for $719 for labor day weekend, then you can get the $50 rebate for a total of around $700 after taxes.

As I remember, Samsung has posted their firmaware updates quite some time after Pentax. I think Pentax has better support for the time being.

Remember the small print on the rebate. K10D body only. Not kit.

Isn't the battery grip a little different at that?

The kit includes a body inside of it, with a separate UPC and serial.

Smart Move!!!!

I think I'd buy the K10D, chances are that your customer support will be better and more knowlegable. And you can be absolutely certain that everything Pentax releases for the K10D will be compatible. I know that the battery grip for instance doesn't quite fit the GX-10, but Samsung released their own. Pentax isn't going anywhere, Samsung may bail out of the DSLR game tomorrow. And the firmware updates from Pentax are more often than the Samsung. Other than that I think the cameras are identical.

Welcome to the world of Pentax!

i believe if you pay with paypal you get an additional 10% off.

so $719 -10% -$50MIR = $597.28 + Tax.

just a word of warning, the rebate will take forever to fill since pentax is switching rebate centers.

Well I won't be able to buy it today so I can't get Dell's labor day sale, plus Dell charges tax which most online retailers don't do.

The price differance is $110 for the body+lens kit, at least at B&H. Although the $50 MIR does cut that down.

Actually there have been a great many people post on this site that they changed from Canon to Pentax, including one very notable photographer in France. *winks to Ben*

now he can buy LOTS more Pentax stuff than he had in Cannon and mabe have some left over for a couple tanks of gas lol

i have NO idea about samsong and there costumer care but i KNOW Pentax KICKS but in this dep. being able to get some one on the phone and Quickly is worth the 110$ difference on to its self. i called 2x the other day and i got to talk to some one in about 2 min or less and they where plight and helped out a lot.

this is why i whent with Pentax i have a Nikon and i had the same amount of lens for it so my choices where Pentax or Nikon well one of the things i did was timed how long i whated on the phone to talked to some one on the phone and Pentax was the shortest.

I'm switching to pentax for two reasons:

First my primary lenses have become m42 takumar lenses and the ability to use them in addition to all the k-mount lenses out there was quite tempting. Before a friend of mine lost it my m42 50mm 1.4 got used more than any other lens.

Second the lack of in body IS on the canons was frustrating to say the least knowing that it was an option in other systems (and even p&s cameras) but having to buy IS lenses that I coulden't afford to get it on my canon camera sucked, and the pentax system is the only one that offers IS with manual focus lenses.

I'm very happy to welcome a fellow Takumar fan to our happy little family here at Pentax Forums.
