Can I use SR with m42 lenses?

Hi,

Sorry if this has been posted before but a quick search did not show much.
With my older K mount lenses, whenever I turn on my camera (K100D Super) it asks for the focal lenght so Shake Reduction can be used. But testing an m42 screwmount with a genuine adapter, I don't get it and the SR off icon shows up. Can I have the SR work with m42s? if so, how?

Thanks,

it may be that it does not believe a lens is connected, since many M42 lenses are either painted/anodized bases which are insulating, or simply are too small a diameter to touch the pins and short them out.

I don't have a K100 so I don't know whether there is an option in the menus to permit this. SOmeone once referenced a function like use screw mounts but I don;t know if it applies.

You need to input the lens focal length at startup with any manual lens, but once that's set, SR will work just fine!

Do you have the camera set to a mode that automatically turns off SR?

Thanks!
Adam, that's the problem. I'm not getting the request for that input as I do with the K or M lenses. I'll check tonight what Lowell said. I think the contacts in the body were exposed with this particular lens.

Thanks!

Just a quick note- I've dropped a industar 50-2 with the genuine pentax m42 adapter on my 100DS, wich does not have ANY flange at all- the contacts are exposed to the world!- and I am still prompted to input the focal length at camera power on.

Probably a menu setting. Here's mine (what I think are pertinent, I haven't changed these since I bought the camera ~ 4 years ago):

Custom setting tab

AE-L bttn on M expsr: option 2, Tv shift (this sets the shutter speed based on a stopped down reading when pressing the AE-L button in manual exposure mode).

Fl with S lens used: option 2, Available (this allows the AF to sense when using manual focus)

Use aperture ring: 2, permitted (allows use of the aperture ring on the lens).

That's all I can see in the menus that would deal with use of manual focus, non auto exposure lenses... hope that helps!

Thank you Virgilr!

I was missing the Fl with S lens setting.
That did the trick!

Thank you all!
