K10D Menu Typos

In the Custom Settings portion of the menu I've found a number of typos -- specifically the truncation of vowels -- "wrning" "vewfinder" "bracketng" "expsr" that I find very sloppy and disconcerting. My firmware is 1.0. I can't find any on the *istD.

Anyone else notice this??

John

doubt they were typo's, probably just short hand..so they can fit the whole thing in w/o having to make the txt smaller..

I just looked at it, and it seems as if there's always room to spare! They'd better fix this in the next firmware

Unless you're taking shots of signs - then you'd better check the photos!

Definitely one of the least things I'd ever want Pentax to worry about in a firmware update...

The DS/DL had amusing shorthand too. Never bothered me one iota. Shouldn't bother anyone else IMO...

But if that's the kind of thing you really want to glue yourself to, knock yourself out.

Dn't expct mch sympthy frm me thgh!

It takes a little of getting used to. It doesn't bother me at all.

They were cutting costs, I think vowels are more expensive than consonants

funny

Of all the things to bother someone about a new camera this seems to be the most unimportant thing I can think of. As long as we know what the letters are referring to, what does it matter? I would instinctively add the necessary letters myself in reading the abbreviations and not think twice about it.

Not only K10D: all Pentax DSLRs have that. My DS is full of "expsr" and "shttr" settings! :-) In some cases there is really not enough space to fit all words in a single line, but in some cases I do not understand why they did it. Perhaps once abbreviated stays abbreviated everywhere for consistency (although I am not sure this is really the case).

Perhaps someone at Pentax got inspired by flight management computers at modern jetliners: some of them would offer you to do things like set "DSCNT RTE" (descent rate) or to "CLR WPT" (clear way point).
