upgrading? not quite

i'm keeping my K10, flash setup and a couple lenses at home for dedicated light box work.

I'm adding the K5 and new kit bag for all other stuff, the K5 won't be a total upgrade, more of an addition

I'll get the K5 around Christmas time. I hope it will be in SA by then - the local Pentax people are worse than useless, so much that some of the bigger retailer camera shops don't even carry their stock.
Reason: no after sales service.
If it's not here by then, I'll buy it overseas as I travel a lot.

i`ll upgrade from k200d, altough it is great camera, it`s getting older every day and the AF is pain in the ass. i`m planning to buy k-5 around christmas or after new year. but it has to be at max 1200 euro.

If the price is right I'll be upgrading from my K-x. The K-x has served me great as an intro body to get into photography but I can't help but notice a few limitations these days that the K-5 should fix.

There are those also with multiple cameras like me.
The K-5 will be taking the place of my current No. 1 camera, the K20D (which will then become my No. 2 camera). My K10D will then be passed on to a friend to pursue her interest in photography.

The K-5 will become my main camera, and my k200d will act as a back-up.

I've got a k10D which was a replacement for a ist. the k5 is timely on a few year schedule
but the K10 is ok and will likely get passed around the family as did the iST.

I'm expecting it to provide improved technical quality in the photos to a minor extent, but a sigificant driver is the 'movie' capability. I use the camera mostly to provide photos for my extensive website, which I want to rework into HTML5. With the pending release of IE9
I feel that HTML 5 including its movie feature will be sufficiently developed to support
short 'movie clips' as an alternative to still photos (or in addition to) and I'm thinking that the movie feature is sufficiently developed to provide short 'movie clip' material to agument the still shots that I now embed.

I have K10D and K100D Super. Skipped K20D and K-7 due to not being so much better than K10D in real life. K-5 could finally be MUCH better in two of my main complains: AF speed/accuracy in low light and high ISO. Altough, K100D Super is magnificent up to ISO 3200 (ISO 1600 is great), but it's such slow camera...

Currently my kit includes a k200d, a K-x and a bunch of lenses (the Da12-24 is almost glued to my k200 and the Da55-300 is on the K-x). I also keep a Ricoh GX100 point and shoot in my bag for everyday use. Now I think that camera will be retired-the K-x with my F35-105 will go into my crew-bag (it's a lovely combo-great IQ and the AF is really really fast).

So my camera bag will include hopefully the K5 and the k200d-it's low iso IQ is still amazing me-to tell the truth the K-x never came close to it (up to iso400)regardless of higher dynamic range.

Regarding the K-5 I'm looking forward to the 100% viewfinder-dedicated buttons, ergonomics (which is quite similar to the k200d in terms of grip size) and the AF system. With the K-x I was sometimes very happy-sometimes not..sometimes managed to capture nice birds in flight-sometimes didn't understand why the same technique I used before didn't work. Of course high iso is important too..but the K-x made me very happy in this area so far.

my favourite bird picture with the K-x and the Da50-200..hope the K-5 will give me more of these:

Low-light in general has been the bane of my existence with a K20 for the last year and a half and no matter how good the AF assist light is on my hotshoe, the 3 seconds I spend getting the focus right (between convincing celebs and clients to hold a little longer) convinced me that this new system can't come any faster.

I already have two K20s and one of them's a dedicated IR setup. I'll probably sell the other one (since it's SDM-crippled, I'm hoping it'll get a little more as a result).

I'm keeping my K10D as a backup, but I'll be buying the K 5 as soon as it's available! I'm anxious to hear when it will actually be available for order
