K5 pricing -

at amazon, k5 + 18-55 just jumped from 1,599.95 to $1,749.95!

talk about price coming down, at amazon, it's going the opposite direction!

gee, pentax. at these prices the d7000 is looking really good at $1199.

hopefully come black friday or christmas, the k5 and kr's prices will be more realistic.
i've always said my wallet is on the k5, but not at this price!

Amazon had listed the body only and body plus lens at the same price. They just corrected the error. I believe that Amazon has not yet received prices for product from Pentax. I would expect them to come down before shipment. Give it a week or two.

Please note that the price of Pentax K-5 16.3 MP Digital SLR with 18-55mm Lens and 3-Inch LCD (Black) has increased from $1,599.95 to $1,749.95 since you placed it in your Shopping Cart. Items in your cart will always reflect the most recent price displayed on their product detail pages.

hopefully, amazon will correct that

The initial price may be high or just right depending on your point of view. However, I believe the price will find its support level base on supply and demand. If you are not in a rush to get one, you will be able to get at a price you are willing to pay for it which may be a year from now.

I think the issue might be the enforcement of that stupid "can only show MSRP" policy, i.e. click to see the real price, that Pentax has forced on retailers in the US. Since there won't be any "click", to see real price until the K-5 comes to market, MSRP will be what people see displayed for the next month or so, and should do a really good job killing any interest in the camera in the US.

Reaping what you sow comes to mind.

Thank you
Russell

I disagree, I believe this will be the finalize price at launch.

Really kids, until the camera is released, these places are pretty much pulling numbers out of their asses.

In the Netherlands the K-5 has an MRSP including 19% VAT with the DAL 18-55 (why not with the WR version is a mystery to me...) lens of €1499,-

The 18-135mm will be sold for €779,-

I sure hope that these prices will fall before Christmas, they seem a bit steep to me compared with the prices in Norway for instance.

As a comparison the prices of the two major competitors:

Nikon D7000:
- body: €1195,-
- body + 18-105 VR: €1299,-
- body + 16-85: €1599,-
- body + 18-200: €1699,-
- body + 18-105 + 70-300: 1699,-

Canon 7D:
- body: €1197,-
- body + EF18-135 IS: €1474
- body + EF18-85 IS: €1743

Pentax K-7:
- body: €818
- body + 18-55 WR: €925,-
- body + 18-55WR + 50-200WR: €1048,-
- body + 17-70 SDM: €1269,-

Pentax' marketing is just dozing off. I don't know if they were caught off-guard by Nikons D7000 announcement and price, but to not be able to set a CLEAR MSRP is beyond me.

i only hope by this christmas, the k5's price will have stabilized and gone down to a more "realistic" level

Kind of on topic, Just got of the phone with CR Kennedy (Australian Distro's of Pentax, Metz and Sigma) and they have told me that (at least here in Australia) there is an embargo on the K-5 in reguads to price and some minor specs until Noverber, just before it's released.....

Find that kind of strange considering that i could get info on the 645 and it's price at the begining of the year.....What's up pentax?

Cheers !
Ben

I believe MSRP should set against the D7000 or at least give it the same msrp as the K7.
I know for certain that I m not paying more than 1300$ for it. I might buy it in europe without VAT and it still would be cheaper than in the US (a first) at the vector US prices are going.

An Australian shop has the k5 body listed at AU$1379 - which equates to around US$1300. Not sure where they got their pricing from?

K-r and K-5 in the Netherlands

Where is that?? I have only spotted the K-5 at FotoB. in Amsterdam, and they only list K-5 and K-5 + 18-55 (without any hint on it being L or WR) with the prices you give, No 18--135 to be found there

I have found another (besides the store in Amsterdam) store (in Urk) which lists the K-r and they are € 110,00 cheaper on K-r body and € 120,00 on K-r + DA 18-55.
