TAv mode

hey guys,

TAv mode is only on the top of the line cameras, is that right?

K10D -> K20D -> K-7 -> K-5 right?

You can see anything below the K10D doesn't have TAv. I know my K100D doesn't have it.

I am not sure you answered him clearly... hecka, I read and re-read many times what you wrote and still dont know what you meant!

Howard, I think your original guess it is correct. My understanding is only the top models offer the TAv. A pity, because I love the TAv in the K10D but I dont have the ISO to fully justify it (I only use it from 100 to 400 on the K10D) and the KX, with a vast range of ISO options (I use it from 100 to 3200) does not offer the TAv! It is a bit ironic actually.

Agreed, TAv mode is the same floating ISO (in Nikon world) and it is only available in high end DSLR models such as K10D, K20D, K-7 and K-5 now, (in general, these models don't have any of the "scene" modes.

Thanks guys, figured that was the case.

Interesting decision, especially given the ISO higher capabilities of the newer cameras.

I got it, What she is doing is confirming the OPs assertion and giving a link to back it up.

I guess I should have said, "in the link, you can see." Some people read but don't bother to click on the link.

Thanks Jeff for the help.

Remembering that on the entry-level models you can set the ISO to "Auto ISO" range, which gives you some control under Av/Tv.

You would have to use Manual mode and then auto ISO? On my K10D I cannot do that...

Blah blah blah...

Oh please, the link only shows cameras by release date, saying that "in the link you can see anything below the K10D doesn't have TAv" still doesnt say anything, because you have cameras released AFTER the K10D that do not offer it.

you are right, you cant do it as suggested.

TAv cannot be fully reproduced in the Kx with the Auto_ISO. It is not the same.

I digged into that once I realized how useful would be to have the TAv in the Kx... I actually think I created a very similar topic a while ago...

This is not the same. TAv means you control the Aperture as well as the shutter speed - let the camera decide on ISO setting based on the metering mode selected. The Auto ISO range for entry-level model is for warning that it is out-of-range and is not the same.

I'm pretty sure they put a lot more work in useless features like the auto modes. I would trade them all on my kx for Tav.

No consumer-level dslr has TAv. You all need to stop whining and shell out for a K-7 or K-5.
