Pentax K5 vs. Olympus E-5 (Outdoor Performance)

Both bodies are sealed and good for outdoor activities.
Olympus have a bigger sortiment with sealed lenses currently.
Pentax might have the better body.
Both brands offer a grip for AA batteries.

Which system would bring better IQ as a traveller DSLR in your opinion?

general consensus is the 4/3 mount is in serious death throws now and that the e5 is a no r&d required release so wouldn't want to buy into the system now - the e-5 is a big camera (nikon d300 size) but is essentially a 12mp k-7

that said the lens are held in pretty high regard

being pentax forum i suspect most here would say the k-5 would be a better weather sealed option - and the facts do kinda back it up

With regards to IQ, the E-5 is supposed to have no DR and SNR improvements over the generation old PEN-EP1, while the K-5 is supposed to have notable improvements in that area.

In addition, the larger sensors (APS-C vs 4/3rds) typically have better DR, color depth, and depth of field control.

My first reaction looking at the E-5's specs is - THIS is supposed to be their latest flagship dSLR ? Rather underwhelming.....

yeah the m4/3 is a rather small sensor. and the e-5's body is HUGE.

personally, i think the m4/3 is best implemented on the upcoming Panasonic GH2
