Been using RSE mostly, but just started playing with Silky. Because I have Elements, I can't do batch with ACR, one by one is too slooooowwww.

First I've hear of UFRaw tho. Any good?

I Use Mainly RSP. I have tried them all and I still Keep coming back to RSP W/Color Engine. If i had to chose a second Favorite it would Be Silkypic.
Not Very happy at all With lightroom, but i reserve judgement on It Till It Comes out of Beta. I have Elements and PSCS2, but i never liked ACR.

it works fine, it's based on dcraw, as most are, and it's free. it's a stand alone app and also a plugin to the Gimp, also free, both are open source.

Same here: use the Pentax Silky since there is no support for K100D yet in the others. Being a software developer, I just do not get it: why is the UI so crappy?

The functions offered in it seem to be OK but it is a pain to use and the DNG files
exported seem to not be fully supported in Elements (I got some files that cannot be read).

It looks like the new K10D could save directly in DNG.

How does the Pentax software compare to ACR in terms of speed and results? As a current Nikonian I have to deal with the incredibly clumsy Capture NX which is a great program burdened by what someone on another board described as 'the worst UI in human history'

Unfortunately the Pentax software, as is most camera supplied software, not the best. ACR, Raw Shooter, Silky Pic all blow it away.

It must be some kind of competition between camera manufacturers: who makes the most crummy RAW software? :-)

Should the UI of Pentax Silky be average I would settle with it.

Hey at least Pentax doesn't charge you for theirs!!! Actually Capture NX is an incredibly innovative program. U points and all that. But to actually pay for that kind of interface.

I think the best browser/interface is Bibble. I just wish it handled highlight recovery and detail better.

Raw converter

I see a lot of users of RawShooter, but few of Silkypix and have to believe that it is because they haven't tried a free trial of Silkypix. I used Silkypix the first time and sent RawShooter to the recycly bin. There is more than that much difference.

I think it's because of an excellent RawShooter workflow and convenience to use it.

New to Raw

I just got the k100d earlier this week, haven't used raw before.

Don't like Pentax Photo Lab. Don't like the interface, doesn't seem to have many features, slow as molasses. Downloaded Silkypix. Better, but not by much and slow as molasses.

Downloaded dcraw. When I click the icon, a DOS window opens briefly, then nothing.

Downloaded GIMP and ufraw, but ufraw doesn't support k100d yet, so haven't installed it yet.

Bibble 4.9 supports k100d now. Downloaded it 5 minutes ago, haven't installed it yet.

Might be shooting in jpeg for a while.

Well, this is interesting. UFRaw is based on DCRaw v. 8.28, and the list of cameras supported does not include the k100d.

dcraw has been updated to v.8.39 or something and does include support for the k100d, but ufraw hasn't yet been updated according to the web site.

Nevertheless, when I installed gimp and ufraw, ufraw read k100d raw files.
