Raw conversion

Kjask:
I normally use Adobe cs2 RAW plugin but in the past few days I realized that Picasa also has a RAW converter to it. I found myself playing with Picasa more and more and I'm finding out this free program has so much more to offer than I first thought. The program has alot of power in the simple adjustments and effects modes. I recomend to any one to go to google and download this Beta version and give it a good work out. the sharpining tool is automatic but does a fantastic job. Like I said give it a try.

I normally use bibble so I chose that though at the moment I'm not using any RAW conversion as bibble still doesn't support the K100d...

I use UFRaw, because open source software helps keep your eyes shiny and your digestion regular.

I voted for the Pentax Photo Lab, although I also use RSE and Silkypix. I do like the Pentax Software better than RSE because how it manages RED and I think it also does a better job of removing Hot Pixels.
The interface is very clumsy though, and the new version seems even more cluttered.
I have also used Silkypix once or twice and it seems nice too.

raw converter

I use RSE/RSP with my DS. I am going to buy the K10D. I don't know what I will use for it. Tried the Pentax lab that came with DS. It is horrible to use. I have CS2 but haven't tried the raw converter. The Pentax SilkyPix is as hard to use as ever. Is normal Silky as hard to use as this? I will have a new camera and have no idea how to convert it. Argghh. Bad Adobe bad.
thanks

No, the regular Silkypix is much easier to use than Pentax Photo Lab, but still miles away from the user friendliness of RAW Shooter.

My first experience with raw was RSE it trully is most user friendly. Then I tried C1 and noticed difference in color rendition in favour of C1. After some tweaks I found out that C1 can do everythyng just as good as RSE but with better colors. I've been using C1 since and every "test drive" of other converters just bonces me back to C1. If I had a faster machine Lightroom could be serious competition but for now I'm sticking with C1 and my usual workflow.

very interesting reading! thanks to all!
I've tried rawshooter (a lot), bibble and photoshop plugin before I found silkypix - small, simple, cheap (there is also free version with basic settings) and with very good color rendition. It also has perspective correction, which I often use in architecture photography. Fine color tuning is almost genial... al least for me.. And it also has mode for color reproduction similar to reversal film... Picture development is fast... In other words: it has all I need. And I'm glad that silkypix technology is part of Pentax laboratory (version 3). It's a pitty that I won't try any other raw converter now. I just don't have need for that...
