I like my low ISO output from the K-7...

Apparently DPreview mention it high on their Pro list: "At base ISO detailed output that makes good use of the camera's 14.6 megapixel resolution"

Same here, but any longer exposures than 1 sec, and I'm all for the K10D. The old CCD sensors just seem to have warmer vivid colours, but this too is subjective.

In short, while I certainly wouldn't claim that the K20D yields sharper images than the K10D, it does yield images that are more pleasing. I really like the Samsung sensor.

I suspect that the sensor in the K-5 will be superior to everything currently available, and not just at high ISO. Time will tell!

Agreed there - and I also am keen to see the K-5 low ISO results, including long exposures, in action.

There is no question whatsoever that the K5 has the best DR at low ISO compared to all other Pentax DSLRs.
I have taken shots at ISO 80. Incredible.

I have K10D and K-7. I am thinking that K10D has a bit more latitude in pulling down the almost blown highlights whereas K-7 has more latitude in pushing up the almost complete black shadows. The prints (A3 size) I made from K10D with appropriate ressing up are very good. I haven't yet printed any enlargements from K-7 sans one picture that also came out really good.

Supposedly K10D has slightly weaker AA filter and given its lower pixel count, pictures from it may be perceived as slightly sharper. K-7 in turn has more pixels. Either camera with proper technique, light and good lens could yield outstanding results.

That is extremely good to hear. Just to confirm - above middle gray - not in the shadows?

It has very good highlight headroom. Or what do you mean?

Yes, that's what I was hoping to hear. While I am happy to pull detail out of K-7 shadows, I'm sick of dealing with noise reduction and attendant colour shifts.
Not to mention blowing blue skies. I mean come on - unless it is a bright sky, there is no reason (IMHO) for blown skies.
Per pixel sharpness and colour good in your opinion?

I have too few images to really say something definitive.
But knowing Pentax I think there is good hope to get something really good.
