Going from K-7 to Canon 7D

Guys ive lurked around these forums for a long time and have been shooting with a K-7. I recently was able to use my friends 7D and i loved the AF system in there. He told me i could trade in an old broken canon P&S i had for refurbished 7D from canon for around 1200. Im really thinking of going the route. Canon lens's is something ive looked at and think this would be a good move. Thoughts?

Yup. If you liked the AF of the 7D, you should just go. Even with the improved AF of K-5, I don't see Pentax AF ever catching up with Canon AF. You should know, however, that the 7D won't suddenly make you a better photographer, or, even give you a in herently better/different picture.

If you are happy with the ergonomics of the camera, weight and balance then it is not a bad move.
Out of interest, what do you shoot normally.

Thanks guys for the feedback. I shot mostly sports and my little cousins who never stay still. I see that system really aiding in that.

If the superior AF on the Canon will improve your photography and you can afford the Canon glass you'll need, there's no reason not to switch. You'll tend to pay more for comparable glass on Canon and you'll lose in body SR, but if you need the AF that may be a small price to pay.

If AF speed and bigger camera is your preference, I agree that this is a good time to own a 7D (very attractive price), which I believe will meet your needs. The trend is going to smaller form factor camera, the 60D and D7000 is a good testimony of that. Do what you feel it is right for you and happy shooting.

I sorta love this forum, its not full of fanboys like most I have been to(Several Nikon and Canon Ones). New here for $1,299.00 with free shipping and no tax I think. EOS-7D 18 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3-inch LCD (Body Only) at Central Digital. I don't know how great that site is but reselleratings seemed ok when I looked em up.

But yeah if you like how it shots and it feels great to you, go for it, happy picture taking :-D.

That's an imported camera, meaning it will have no warranty Abstract. I'm not sure I would risk it for $200; the difference in price compared to a new one at Adorama.

You might be right, I guess I have had luck before at so so places, got my D40 at abes of maine which at the time was being teared to hell for bad customer service. But yeah Adorama is a great store, I prefer it over any other actually.

Didn't notice the imported thing, sorry about that.
