k20d has a mind of its own

I'm wondering if this is a known or common issue:
After focusing on a subject, my k20d continues to make beeping noises and the red square lights up (I only use a central focus point on single-shot). This is AFTER I take my hand off the shutter button or AF button--I'm just holding the camera and not prompting it to focus or confirm anything. This happens intermittently, and with different lenses.

A couple of years ago, I got rid of my k100 for a similar reason: the shutter button seemed to have a mind of its own, with a possible short circuit. I'm worried that this is another defective shutter release issue. The camera is a little over a year old and has light use.

Am I the only one?

This happens to me in manual focus mode too.

I think the manual focus assist is on always, analogous to the AF-C setting. Just a speculation, mind you; it would make more sense if the focus mode were active when the shutter is pressed halfway, and for a few seconds after, like AF-S.

There are two things you can do to stop this behaviour:
  • Turn off AF on half press and use only the AF button
  • Turn off the beeper and ignore the light show

This is normal focus confirmation with manual focus. Do as Rockies says. I use MF most of the time, because I don't trust AF in the woods, so I don't trust the focus confirmation either. I turned off AF on half-press. AF button seems faster and more accurate than the half-press anyway when I do use AF.
